These steps reduce avoidable risks, but they cannot guarantee an account will never be compromised.
Secure recovery access before changing security settings
Start by checking that you can open the primary email address on your EA Account and that it is current. Email access matters both for account recovery and for receiving verification messages if you choose email as a 2FA method. EA says adding a secondary email can help with a password reset if you lose access to both the account and its primary email. Review the options in EA’s account-security guidance.

Set a unique password for your EA Account
Use a password that you do not use for your email, console account, or another service. EA recommends different passwords for the EA Account, console login, and email, and cautions against using information from public profiles. A reused password can put multiple accounts at risk if one service is exposed.

Turn on EA two-factor authentication
EA’s documented setup path is through the EA Account, not a special security screen inside the Companion App. Sign in to your EA Account and open Security and Privacy. EA’s labels and available methods may change, so follow the current account settings if they differ from these steps.

- Open Security and Privacy in your EA Account settings.
- Find Two-factor authentication and select Turn On.
- Choose email, an authenticator app, or text message as the verification method.
- Enter the verification code EA sends or the authenticator app generates, then complete setup.
- View and store the backup codes securely before leaving the setup flow.
EA documents these three verification channels in its two-factor authentication guide. An authenticator app generates codes on your device rather than sending them over email or text. Choose a method you can reliably access, and preserve backup codes in case that method becomes unavailable. If the account offers more than one method, consider keeping an additional reachable option enabled.
Save backup codes and plan for a phone change
EA says backup codes are the way to sign in on a new device when you cannot use your selected verification method. Store them somewhere secure and separate from the device you rely on for codes. Before replacing or resetting a phone, make sure you still have the backup codes and, if your authenticator app supports it, transfer its data according to the app’s instructions.

Understand how passkeys fit with 2FA
If passkeys are available on your EA Account, EA describes them as a sign-in method that uses built-in device security. A passkey and 2FA are distinct features: EA recommends using 2FA when possible even if you sign in with a passkey. Do not treat a passkey as a replacement for 2FA. See EA’s account verification guidance for current details.
Review trusted devices
In EA Account security settings, inspect the trusted-device list and remove devices you no longer use or do not recognize. Keep a screen lock and device password enabled on the phone or tablet you use for the Companion App. EA recommends checking trusted devices for suspicious activity in its account-security guidance.

Protect your login from scams and shared devices
- Never share your password, verification code, or passkey with someone claiming to help. EA states it will not ask for login details through console messaging or private forum messages.
- Use EA Help for account support. EA warns that paid social-media account-recovery offers are scams; do not hand over credentials or codes to a third party promising to restore access.
- On a shared or public computer, do not save your login details. Log out when finished and clear the browser cache.
- Keep your device software and security protection up to date, and use browser phishing filters where available. These are general hygiene measures, not a special Companion App requirement or a guarantee against phishing.
EA’s instruction is direct: “To help keep your EA Account secure, never share your login information, passwords, verification codes, or passkeys with anyone.” Read the EA two-factor authentication page for its account-safety instructions.
What to do if you see suspicious activity
Unusual activity can be associated with phishing, shared devices, weak passwords, or reused passwords. EA may lock an account and reset its password. If EA locks your account, follow its password-reset instructions, then choose a unique password and enable 2FA. EA’s guidance is in its account-lock article.

If you think someone accessed your account
- Reset your EA Account password.
- Change the password for the email account attached to EA.
- Turn on EA 2FA if it is not already enabled.
- If you play on a console, reset the password for the linked PlayStation Network, Xbox, or Nintendo account as applicable.
- Use EA’s official recovery instructions and contact EA Help if you still cannot access the account or content is missing.
EA cautions that it may not be able to restore all missing content. Its hacked-account guidance covers the recovery steps and support route.
Use the FC support hub for game-specific help
EA’s FC 26 help hub lists Companion App support alongside account security, account management, recovery, and linking resources. The security controls described above belong to the EA Account; the Companion App does not replace them. No account-compromise rate or quantified risk reduction is established by the cited EA help pages, so treat these steps as practical safeguards rather than a guarantee.
