For a personal Claude account, the sign-in method determines what you need to secure: Anthropic documents signing in with Google or receiving a secure login link by email. Protect the Google Account or mailbox connected to Claude, because it is the authentication gate. Anthropic’s reviewed personal login guidance does not document a Claude-native two-factor authentication setting.
Does Claude have two-factor authentication?
Anthropic’s Help Center documents Google sign-in and email login links for individual Claude accounts, and says a dedicated Claude password cannot currently be created. It does not document a personal-account MFA toggle. That means you should not assume that a Google authenticator app, passkey, or security key is a second factor Claude itself verifies; those methods protect the Google sign-in route.

Choose and secure your personal sign-in method
Anthropic documents two personal sign-in routes. Neither is universally safer: choose the one whose account you can reliably protect and recover.

If you use Google
Open your Google Account’s Security & sign-in settings and turn on 2-Step Verification. Google says passkeys and hardware security keys protect Google Accounts from phishing attacks. A FIDO2-compatible hardware key is one physical option if supported by your Google Account and devices. This adds protection to the Google account used to reach Claude; it is not a Claude-native factor.

If you use an emailed login link
Anyone who can access the registered mailbox may be able to receive a Claude sign-in link. Turn on the email provider’s strongest available authentication, verify that recovery email addresses and phone numbers are yours, and use a screen lock on devices where you read email. These are mailbox-security steps, not Claude account settings.

Sign out of Claude sessions if access looks suspicious
If you suspect someone else has used your account, Anthropic’s documented sign-out-all-sessions option is in the Claude web app, not the iOS or Android apps.

- Open Claude in a web browser and sign in if you still can.
- Open Settings > Account.
- Select Log Out to sign out of active Claude sessions across devices.
- Secure the linked Google Account or email mailbox, then contact Anthropic support if suspicious activity or access problems remain.

Work accounts and API keys need separate safeguards
Organization SSO
For a managed organization, SSO is an administrator-configured sign-in path, separate from personal Claude account settings. Administrators should use Anthropic’s Set up single sign-on (SSO) guidance and the organization’s identity-provider instructions.

API Console keys
An API key is not a Claude login password or a personal-account second factor. Anthropic warns that an exposed key can enable unauthorized API use and charges. Keep keys out of public code, store them as encrypted secrets, use separate keys for different purposes where practical, monitor usage, and delete a key if you believe it has been compromised. If you cannot log in
Use Anthropic’s Help Center rather than looking for an undocumented Claude password reset or recovery code. Open the Help Center, select the message icon to start a conversation, and choose I can’t login. The support route is described in How to Get Support.
