Before linking a mobile game to Facebook, Google, Apple/Game Center, or another provider, secure the game account and the email and platform accounts attached to it. Then verify the game profile and provider you intend to connect, check the game’s own rules for linking and recovery, and use only its official linking flow. Linking steps and consequences vary by game, so do not assume a connection can be undone or that profiles can be merged.
Secure the accounts that can unlock your game
Start with the email address used for the game account. If you lose access to that inbox, you may also lose access to verification or recovery messages. HoYoverse recommends using an email account you use regularly and enabling two-factor authentication (2FA); Supercell says a Supercell ID is only as secure as its registration email. - Use a unique password for the game account, its email, and the social or platform account you plan to link. A password manager can help generate and keep track of complex, non-reused passwords; HoYoverse recommends considering one.
- Enable 2FA wherever it is available, especially on the email account and the chosen provider account. Activision, for example, recommends avoiding password reuse and offers authenticator-app or SMS 2FA for Activision accounts; that is publisher-specific guidance, not a guarantee against compromise.
- Check that you can sign in to the email and provider accounts, and that their recovery options are current. Keep access to recovery methods before starting the linking process.
Check the game profile and linking rules first
Confirm that the game is open on the profile whose progress you want to keep. Also check which email, Apple or Google account, and social account are signed in on the device; a browser or operating system may silently use an account you did not intend to connect.

Do not assume linking is reversible, that one provider works on every device, or that two existing profiles can be combined.

Riot’s documentation is a useful example of why the existing profile matters: Riot says played Riot accounts cannot be merged and describes upgrade steps for some Game Center and Google sign-in users. Those are Riot-specific rules, not a general rule for mobile games. See Riot’s guidance on social sign-in and player support.
Compare recovery access and device reach
Think about two separate questions when choosing a provider: can you reliably recover access to it, and can you use it on the devices where you play? For example, HoYoverse documents Game Center-linked access as iOS-only, while its Google third-party login is available on Android or through its Account Center. Availability depends on the specific game and may change, so confirm the current details in that game’s official documentation: HoYoverse account-security guidance.

Link through the game’s official flow
- Open the game’s account settings or the publisher’s official account center. Start there rather than following an unsolicited message, email, or web link.
- Check the displayed game profile and progress. If the game asks you to sign in to a provider, confirm the provider account shown is the one you intend to link.
- Review any warning about replacing, unlinking, or merging accounts before confirming. Stop if the result is unclear and consult the game’s official support instructions.
- Complete the publisher’s prompts without sharing passwords or codes with another person or an unofficial site.
- Return to the game and confirm it still opens the expected profile. If the settings show linked providers, check that the intended provider appears there.
Keep IDs and verification codes private
Account identifiers and transfer or verification codes can grant access or help someone take over an account. Treat them like credentials: do not post them publicly, send them to strangers, or enter them on a site reached through an unsolicited offer.

SEGA Support warns specifically about Sonic Forces: “Never share your Link Code with anyone else.” SEGA also describes the account ID as sensitive in its security guidance. Supercell Support says: “Only give verification codes to Support during conversations you have initiated via the in-game Help and Support section.” Follow the corresponding rule for your own game, and contact support only through its official channel.

Avoid fake offers and unofficial sign-in pages
Use the game’s official version and publisher channels. SEGA warns against unofficial game versions; Activision warns about suspicious free-item offers; HoYoverse warns against unofficial top-up channels. A promise of free currency or items is not a reason to share login details, verification codes, or transfer codes. Relevant publisher guidance: SEGA, Activision, and HoYoverse.

If you suspect someone else has accessed the game or a linked account, stop following incoming links. From the official settings for the affected email or provider account, change its password and review its security and recovery options. Then contact the game publisher through its official support route; support may need to verify ownership.

Find that route before you need it and keep any player ID or account information the publisher recommends retaining somewhere private. SEGA says an account ID can help with support recovery, while Activision provides a dedicated hacked-account recovery process. SEGA’s account-loss prevention guidance also discusses linking eligible accounts and retaining account details. Recovery steps differ by game.
