Send a wheel event with Puppeteer
page.mouse.wheel(options) returns a promise and dispatches a mousewheel event. The wheel options accept optional numeric deltaX and deltaY values. This runnable ES module example sends vertical and horizontal input:

A wheel delta is input to the page, not a guaranteed number of pixels by which its final scroll position changes. Page event handlers, nested scroll areas, and browser behavior affect what happens. Avoid writing assertions that assume a fixed mapping from deltaY to scrollTop.

Scroll a particular element
When the hovered target matters—for example, with nested scroll regions or custom wheel handlers—position the pointer over the intended element before sending wheel input. Puppeteer coordinates are main-frame CSS pixels measured from the viewport’s top-left corner.

Choose a point inside the element that is actually part of the scrollable area; a visible bounding box alone does not prove that it can scroll in the requested direction.

Choose between wheel input and locator scrolling

});Choose the lower-level mouse method when event targeting is part of what you are testing. Choose the locator method when you want to scroll a known element by offsets and its documented waiting behavior is useful. Troubleshoot wheel scrolling
- The page did not scroll: Check that the pointer is over the intended scroll area, that the area can scroll in the requested direction, and that page handlers do not prevent the expected default behavior.
- The wrong container moved: Position the pointer over the intended nested region using its bounding box, or use
locator.scroll()to target a selected element. - The amount differs from the expected value: A delta is wheel input, not a guaranteed final
scrollTopchange. If the test needs a precise assertion, read the element’s scroll position after the interaction. - The locator scroll fails: Its documented preconditions include being in the viewport, visible, and stable. Check whether the selected element meets those conditions; use the mouse API if the test specifically needs pointer-driven wheel behavior.
- The test must match a physical mouse: Puppeteer mouse events are synthetic and do not fully reproduce real hardware interaction. Validate hardware-specific behavior with an appropriate real-device test.
