Select the exact size, color, or package first, then capture the page only after the displayed price matches that selection. Keep the product name, selected option, and price together in the frame; save the final URL and capture time if the screenshot is evidence for a report or later comparison.
Why the price may not appear until you choose a variant
A product’s options can map to variants with different prices, images, and availability. Shopify’s guidance says the product media and price should update when a new variant is selected: Shopify variant documentation. WooCommerce likewise describes the matching variation’s price, image, and availability appearing after required choices are selected: WooCommerce variable products.

Some stores update those details on the same page; others navigate to a different URL for another variant. Google documents both patterns: Google’s ecommerce site-structure guidance. A collection or listing page may therefore show a range, a general price, or a default variant rather than the price for the particular option you need.
Take a reliable screenshot manually
- Open the product page. Start from the listing or product page, and make sure the product name is identifiable.
- Select the exact option or combination. Choose the required size, color, package, or other attributes. If there are multiple selectors, complete them all rather than capturing a partially selected state.
- Verify the result on screen. Check that the intended option remains selected and that the visible price belongs to it. The page may update dynamically or navigate to a new URL; do not assume a changed URL alone proves the right option is selected.
- Frame the relevant context. Keep the product identity, selected option, and price visible together. Include sale or compare-at pricing and availability when relevant, plus enough surrounding page context to identify the listing.
- Capture the rendered page. Use your browser’s screenshot function or operating-system capture tool. If the important details are separated on a long page, scroll or adjust the view so the identifying context and price are legible in the same image.
- Preserve evidence details when needed. Save the final URL and note the capture date and time, as well as the relevant market or currency. A URL may encode a selected option, but that behavior varies by store, so verify the page state itself.
When recording a sale, distinguish the displayed selected-variant price from a crossed-out reference price. Shopify notes that sale-price placement depends on theme behavior and that differences in compare-at prices between variants can affect what a collection page displays: Shopify sale pricing guidance. Do not label a reference price as the checkout price unless you have checked what it represents.

Make the screenshot useful as evidence
- The selected size, color, or other variant is legible.
- The displayed price is clearly associated with that selection.
- The product name or listing context is in frame.
- Sale and availability details are included only when relevant and visible.
- The final URL, capture date and time, and market or currency are retained when the image supports a report or comparison.
A screenshot of one selected variant documents that selection at the time of capture; it does not establish that the same price applies to every variant. When to automate repeated captures
For one page, selecting the option and taking a browser screenshot manually is usually the simplest method. For repeated work, automation can make selection and capture steps repeatable. Playwright supports screenshots of pages and individual elements: Playwright screenshots.

The important part is not the screenshot command alone: automate the interaction and wait for the intended variant and its price to appear before capturing. A fixed delay can be unreliable when page updates take different amounts of time. Preserve the selected state, enough page context, and the useful final URL just as you would in a manual capture.

Troubleshoot a missing or unexpected price
- No price after making a selection: Check whether another required option remains unselected and whether that combination exists or is available.
- The old price remains visible: Confirm the intended choice is still selected and wait for the page to finish updating. If it appears stale, refresh or start a new capture, then verify both the selection and displayed price again.
- The URL changed: Treat navigation as a possible variant change, not proof of it. Recheck the selected option and price on the resulting page.
- The collection-page price differs: Open the product page and document the chosen variant there; a listing may show a range, a general representation, or a default option.
- The sale display is ambiguous: Record what the selected-variant page actually shows and avoid treating a crossed-out comparison amount as the amount due at checkout without checking its meaning.
