On the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8, press the Side key and Volume Down at the same time, then release. A screen flash indicates the screenshot was captured. This guide covers the 10.5-inch Galaxy Tab A8 family, including Wi-Fi model SM-X200 and LTE model SM-X205—not older tablets named Galaxy Tab A 8.0.
Take a screenshot with the buttons
- Open the screen you want to capture.
- Briefly press the Side key and Volume Down together, then release both buttons. Avoid holding them down.
- When the screenshot preview or toolbar appears, use its options to edit, crop, share, or capture more of a scrollable page.
Samsung’s SM-X200 Galaxy Tab A8 manual calls this “Key capture.” Samsung’s screenshot instructions also recommend releasing the keys after a brief moment.

Use palm swipe instead
Swipe the edge of your hand from left to right or right to left across the screen. If it does not work, enable the gesture in Settings → Advanced features → Motions and gestures → Palm swipe to capture. Menu wording can differ by software version.

After taking the first screenshot, tap the scroll-capture control in the screenshot toolbar; it is commonly shown as downward arrows. Tap it again to capture more as the page scrolls. The option appears when the screen supports scrolling and the feature is available in your software.

Find and use the screenshot
Open Gallery to view your screenshots. Samsung also documents access through My Files → Images. The screenshot toolbar can offer controls to draw, crop, share, or continue a scroll capture.
If screenshot controls are missing or capture fails
Toolbar options do not appear
Check Settings → Advanced features → Screenshots and screen recorder → Screenshot toolbar and turn it on if the setting is available. This path is documented in the SM-X200 manual; labels and availability may vary with software.

The button combination does nothing
- Press Side and Volume Down together briefly and release, rather than holding the buttons.
- Try palm swipe if it is enabled.
- Check whether the app or screen blocks screenshots. Samsung notes that some screens restrict capture for privacy or security reasons; those restrictions are intentional and may not be removable.
Optional methods vary by software
Samsung’s general support article also lists voice commands through Bixby or Google Assistant and a Take screenshot shortcut in the Tasks Edge panel. These options are model- and software-dependent, so they may not be available on every Tab A8 configuration. The SM-X200 manual specifically documents button capture, palm swipe, and screenshot-toolbar functions.
