The John Lewis High Power Handheld Fan looks like a strong budget option: Expert Reviews measured useful airflow, relatively low noise and a long run time, while listing the plastic model at £20 and the aluminium-clad version at £25 in its 2026 review. Those prices are review-time listings, not confirmed current offers. The main drawback is practical: its fan head is fixed, so you cannot angle the airflow.
What do you get?
The fan has a head about two inches across and a handle around 11cm tall. Two buttons control its four speed settings: press to raise or lower the speed, and double-tap the down button to switch it off. A digital display shows speed and battery status. It charges over USB-C and includes a small hand strap attached at the base of the handle.

Expert Reviews listed the plastic model in Mint, Petal or Beach for £20, and an aluminium-clad version in black or silver for £25. These are the prices and finishes reported in the review, published on 28 August 2026; current price and availability may differ.
How much airflow does it produce?
In reviewer Gareth Thomas’s tests, the fan registered 1.6, 2, 2.3 and 2.9m/s across its four settings, measured 50cm away. At one metre, the lowest setting produced no reading on the reviewer’s anemometer; the maximum setting registered 1.6m/s.

In the same review’s 50cm tests, the John Lewis fan’s peak reading exceeded the Shark ChillPill’s 1.3m/s, but was below the Dyson HushJet Mini Cool’s reported 4.3m/s gusts. These readings are specific to the review’s test setup and should not be treated as directly comparable to measurements taken at another distance or under different conditions.
How loud is it?
At 50cm, the reviewer measured 48dBA on the lowest setting and 59dBA on the highest. At maximum speed, the review recorded 65.6dBA for the Shark ChillPill and 62.4dBA for the Dyson HushJet Mini Cool, both louder than the John Lewis fan in that test.

Is the battery life good?
John Lewis’s claim, as reported by Expert Reviews, is up to 15 hours. Thomas’s run-down test lasted 16 hours and 29 minutes on the lowest speed. That result describes a continuous lowest-speed test, not expected mixed-speed use; higher settings will draw more power.
What is the main compromise?
The fan head does not tilt or rotate. You can hold the handle in a different position, but you cannot hinge the head to redirect airflow while the handle stays put. That makes the fixed design less adaptable for a desk or bedside setup than a fan with an adjustable head.

For context, the review contrasts it with the hinged Shark ChillPill and John Lewis’s own Handheld & Foldable Desk Fan, whose angle can be adjusted. The older John Lewis model measured 1.3m/s on low and 2m/s on high at 50cm, compared with 1.6m/s and 2.9m/s respectively for the High Power model. Expert Reviews described the difference as marginal in practical terms, particularly given the newer fan’s roughly £10 review-time price premium.

It is a convincing choice if you want a compact handheld fan with four speeds, a clear display, USB-C charging and strong measured airflow for its review-time price. The test also found it quieter at maximum speed than the two named alternatives, though those results apply to the reviewer’s 50cm setup.

Choose a different design if directing airflow hands-free is important: the fixed head is the central usability limitation. Expert Reviews’ review was based on desk, travel and bedside use, with airflow, sound and battery run-down tests beginning around mid-August 2026 and spanning hot and milder conditions. Its author, Home Editor Gareth Thomas, concluded: “On the balance of its features and price, the John Lewis High Power Handheld Fan is a winner.”
