Use Playwright to inspect the product page’s rendered markup, choose a locator that identifies the displayed price in its product context, wait for the store-specific price state, then capture either that locator or a larger page region. There is no single price selector or loading condition that works across every BigCommerce theme and custom storefront.
Choose what the screenshot needs to prove
Capture the smallest useful region. A price-only image is easier to inspect, while a product-context image helps a reviewer connect the amount to the correct item. Playwright supports locator screenshots and page screenshots; its page API also covers full-page capture, image type, scale, and masking options (Playwright Page API).

- Product context: screenshot the viewport or a larger locator that includes the product name and price.
- Below-the-fold content: use a full-page screenshot if the relevant content is outside the initial viewport.
Inspect the storefront and identify the price
BigCommerce storefronts do not share one guaranteed price selector. Themes have templates, JavaScript, and assets that affect rendered markup, and custom storefronts can differ further (BigCommerce Stencil theme directory structure). Inspect the target page in the same locale and state you intend to document, then select the displayed price within the relevant product context.

For a catalog, first narrow to the product card identified by its product name, then find the price within that card. On a product detail page, inspect the actual price markup and choose the locator that resolves to the displayed amount. Treat any CSS selector as specific to the store until verified against its rendered DOM.
Runnable Playwright example
This JavaScript example uses an accessible product heading to scope the price. Replace the URL, heading name, and price locator with values confirmed on your storefront. The sample assumes the product has a heading and that its price is exposed as text; neither markup pattern is guaranteed for every theme.

Prefer a stable product-card or product-container locator when the page exposes one, or use the exact test ID/accessibility contract available in your storefront. If the page has no test ID, inspect its markup and use a verified locator rather than assuming product-price exists. To capture context instead of just the price, change the capture line to await page.screenshot({ path: 'product-page.png', type: 'png' });. Wait for the right product state
A navigation event only tells you something about document loading; it does not establish that a theme’s price calculation, variant selection, or client-rendered content is ready. Wait for the specific visible price or another condition that represents the state you want to capture. The example waits for the price locator to become visible, but a store with variant or inventory updates may need an additional assertion tied to the selected state.
Set the storefront locale before navigation when localized product content matters. BigCommerce Catalyst documents locale selection and localized product data, but storefront implementations vary (BigCommerce Catalyst multi-language overview). Ensure the screenshot corresponds to the intended locale, currency, and selected variant rather than assuming the default page state is correct.

Make captures useful for comparison
- Keep viewport dimensions, browser version, operating system, and headless/headed mode consistent across captures. Playwright notes that rendering can vary with the host OS, browser version, settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode (Playwright visual comparisons).
- Choose an explicit output path and image type so the artifact is predictable. The example saves PNG; use another supported type only when it suits the workflow.
- Use locator capture for focused evidence and page capture when identification context is important. Avoid full-page output unless the relevant information is beyond the viewport.
- Mask changing or sensitive regions only when doing so is appropriate for the test or documentation purpose; page screenshot options support masking specified locators.
Troubleshoot common failures
- Locator times out: the selector may not exist in this theme, the wrong product may have been scoped, or the relevant variant has not rendered. Inspect the live DOM, verify the product context, and wait for the actual price state.
- Screenshot shows the wrong amount: confirm the product, selected options, locale, and currency before capture. If price changes after interaction, wait for a locator or assertion that reflects the intended selection.
- Image is blank or clipped: confirm the locator is visible and capture the intended element; use a page or larger-region screenshot when the price is laid out in a way that makes a tight crop unclear.
- Screenshots differ between runs: stabilize browser and host conditions, viewport, locale, and page state. Rendering can differ across environments, so an otherwise identical page may not produce pixel-identical output.
- Price exists only after scrolling: scroll the relevant content into view or use a full-page screenshot when broader page coverage is needed.
