To capture an infinite-scroll page, have the agent scroll until the content you want has loaded, wait for the site to settle, and only then take a full-page screenshot. In Playwright, the capture option is fullPage: true; it captures the page’s current scrollable extent, not every item the site could eventually load.
Why a full-page screenshot can still miss content
Infinite-scroll pages fetch or render more items as you move down the page. A full-page capture takes a picture of what is currently present; it does not by itself trigger the page to fetch the rest. Choose what the agent should capture
An infinite feed may have no natural end. Before automating it, define the intended extent: for example, capture the first 40 items, scroll until a particular item appears, or stop after several attempts produce no new items. Record that limit if the screenshot will be used as evidence or shared with someone else.

- Finite page or short feed: Load the desired content and use one full-page image.
- Very long feed: Consider overlapping viewport screenshots. They are easier to inspect in sections, but may repeat sticky headers or miss content at boundaries unless you validate the overlaps.
- Virtualized feed: If the page removes or recycles older items as you scroll, one full-page image may not contain everything you saw. Capture overlapping sections as you move, then check for gaps and duplicates.
These are workflow choices, not guarantees about how a particular site behaves. A screenshot is useful for visual inspection; when an agent needs to understand text, structure, or controls, pair it with a browser or accessibility snapshot. Playwright MCP screenshots
Build the scroll-and-capture workflow in Playwright
- Open the page and let its initial content render. Wait for a page-specific signal if available, such as a known heading or first feed item.
- Find the scrolling element. It may be the document or a nested feed container. Inspect the page’s DOM or accessibility structure rather than assuming that scrolling the window will move the feed.
- Scroll in increments near one viewport. After each movement, wait for an observable signal: a loading indicator disappearing, an item count increasing, or a new item appearing.
- Stop deliberately. Stop when the target content is present, when a stable end condition is met, or when a maximum item or time limit is reached.
- Capture and verify. Check that the image contains the expected first and last items and that lazy-loaded images have appeared.

However, document height alone is not proof that a new item loaded: some sites append content without an immediate height change, and others use nested scrolling or virtualization. For those cases, wait on item count or a visible loading state, and target the actual feed element instead of window.

Capture virtualized or segmented feeds
When older items disappear from the document during scrolling, capture each viewport before moving farther. Use enough overlap to recognize the same item in adjacent images. Afterward, inspect the sequence for repeated items and missing transitions; a single full-page screenshot cannot recover content the page has already removed.
When an AI agent should use a screenshot versus a snapshot
Ask for a screenshot when the task depends on visual appearance: layout, spacing, images, or whether a section is visibly rendered. Use a browser or accessibility snapshot when the agent needs to read text, identify elements, or reason about controls. For an infinite feed, the agent may need both: a structural view to identify the right scroll container and loading signal, followed by an image to verify the visual result. Troubleshooting missed or incomplete captures
- The screenshot ends near the top: The capture may have happened before scrolling loaded more content, or the site may use a nested scroll container. Identify and scroll the element that actually contains the feed.
- There are gaps after scrolling: Replace a fixed short sleep with a wait for a new item, changed item count, or loading indicator to disappear.
- The loop stops too soon: No change in document height does not always mean the feed is finished. Use an item-based condition, and adjust the no-change threshold for the site.
- The image is extremely tall or hard to inspect: Set a deliberate capture limit or use overlapping viewport captures and validate their boundaries.
- Previously visible items are missing: The feed may virtualize or recycle content. Save overlapping viewport screenshots as you scroll instead of relying on one full-page image.
- Images appear blank: Lazy-loaded assets may need more time or to enter the visible area. Scroll through the intended range, wait for the images to render, and inspect the first and last captured sections.
- The page has a “Load more” button: Treat the button as the loading mechanism: activate it as needed, wait for new items, then continue the defined capture workflow.
