In Chrome, open DevTools and select More options > Capture a full size screenshot to capture the whole page. Then inspect the saved image: a fixed footer or other overlay can still obscure content, and full-page capture does not guarantee identical handling on every site. If it does, make a temporary, element-specific CSS change and take a clearly labeled supplemental screenshot; keep an unmodified capture if you need to document what visitors saw.
Capture the full page in Chrome

Load the page and let its visible content settle. If it loads material as you scroll, scroll through the page first, then return to the intended starting point. This can help surface lazy-loaded content, but does not guarantee that virtualized or otherwise dynamic content will all be captured.

Open the DevTools More options menu and choose Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome distinguishes this from Capture screenshot, which captures only the current viewport. Open the saved image and check the footer and the content behind or next to it. The command captures a full page, but the documentation does not promise that every site’s fixed or sticky elements will be handled identically.
What to do if the footer still covers content
First decide what the screenshot needs to prove. For a record of what a visitor saw, preserve the screenshot with the footer in its original state. If the goal is to reveal content obscured underneath, make a separate altered-state capture:

Temporarily change that element’s positioning or visibility so the underlying content can be seen. Keep the change scoped to that element rather than changing broad page styles.

This is a practical DevTools workaround, not an official browser command or a guaranteed fix for every layout. If the page updates dynamically, compare both images and note what changed.

Automate capture with the DevTools Protocol
For automation, the protocol’s Page.captureScreenshot method supports capture options including captureBeyondViewport. Consult the method reference for the protocol parameters and your automation client: Page domain documentation. This route is useful when capture needs to be scripted, but it does not remove the need to prepare dynamic pages or inspect how overlays appear in the output.

Common problems and practical checks

The image shows only what was on screen. Choose Capture a full size screenshot, not Capture screenshot, which is the viewport capture command.

The footer overlaps content in the saved image. Inspect the footer element. If you need to show the obscured content, use a scoped temporary style change for a separate supplemental capture and identify it as altered.

Some page content is missing. Scroll through pages that load content on demand before capture and allow visible content to settle. This may help with lazy loading, but virtualized or dynamic pages can still behave differently; inspect the result rather than assuming every item was captured.

The altered image no longer represents the live page. That is expected: changing positioning or visibility changes the rendered state. Restore the style and retain an unmodified capture if you need a visitor-view record.
