The reliable first step is to trigger the page’s own loading behavior—usually by scrolling through the content you want—then capture the page. Use DevTools’ Network screenshots to diagnose when content appears, or Headless Chrome for repeatable captures with a configurable delay.
Why lazy-loaded content may be missing
Lazy loading defers non-critical or non-visible content until it is needed. A site may rely on the browser’s built-in image or iframe loading, or use JavaScript such as IntersectionObserver or another library. Because those implementations differ, a fixed Chrome setting cannot be assumed to disable them all. Google’s guidance recommends loading relevant content as it becomes visible in the viewport; applying that behavior to a screenshot is a practical workflow, not a guarantee for every site. Google Search Central’s lazy-loading guidance describes the approaches sites may use.

Load the content before taking the screenshot
- Open the target page in Chrome. Decide how far the screenshot should extend. On a finite page, that may be the bottom. On an infinite-scroll page, choose a specific endpoint because more content may continue to appear indefinitely.
- Scroll through the areas you want captured. Move down the page in sections, pausing where necessary for images or other content to load. For infinite scroll, continue scrolling until the desired content has been added. The exact trigger and wait time depend on the site.
- Capture the page after the content appears. Use the screenshot command in Chrome DevTools that is available in your installed Chrome version for the desired capture, such as a full-page screenshot. Chrome’s DevTools documentation covers screenshot capture and Network-panel inspection, but does not establish one universal lazy-loading-off control: Chrome DevTools Network reference.
- Inspect the result. If images, cards, or other items are still absent, repeat the relevant scroll-and-wait sequence or investigate the site’s specific loading behavior before capturing again.
Diagnose loading with Network-panel screenshots
DevTools can record screenshots during a page reload so you can see what the page looked like at different moments in its loading timeline. This helps identify whether content appeared late, never appeared, or was absent from the outset; it does not turn lazy loading off.

- Open DevTools and select the Network panel.
- Open Network panel settings and enable Capture screenshots.
- With Network focused, reload the page.
- Review the screenshot frames alongside network activity. Select a frame to inspect the page state at that point in the load timeline.
The same Network reference describes Disable cache as a way to emulate a first-time visit by disabling the browser cache. It is a cache control, not a lazy-loading switch. Chrome DevTools Network reference.

Capture from the command line with Headless Chrome
For repeatable captures, Chrome Headless supports screenshot output and viewport sizing. A documented example is:
chrome --headless=new --screenshot --window-size=412,892 https://example.com/
The example’s viewport dimensions are illustrative, not a universal recommendation. Replace the URL with the page you need and adjust the viewport to your use case. To give asynchronous rendering more time, add --timeout with a delay in milliseconds:

chrome --headless=new --screenshot --window-size=412,892 --timeout=5000 https://example.com/
Here, 5000 means a 5,000-millisecond delay. Chrome documents this flag as the delay before content is captured by --screenshot, --dump-dom, or --print-to-pdf. Without a timeout or virtual-time budget, capture occurs as soon as the page is loaded. A delay can help with asynchronous rendering, but it does not prove that every deferred item has loaded or trigger every site-specific scroll behavior. See Chrome Headless documentation.
Choose an interactive or command-line workflow
| Workflow | Useful for | Timing and control | Limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| DevTools and manual scrolling | One-off captures and pages where you need to trigger content yourself | You can scroll, wait, inspect frames during reload, and choose when to capture. | Requires manual handling; the page may need site-specific interaction. |
| Headless Chrome | Repeatable command-line captures | Set a viewport and a fixed delay with --timeout. |
A fixed delay alone cannot ensure custom or infinite-scroll content has been triggered. |
Neither method automatically guarantees a complete capture of custom or infinite-scroll content. In both cases, account for the page’s own behavior and decide what endpoint the screenshot should include.

Settings that do not disable lazy loading
- Disable cache: changes whether Chrome uses its browser cache; it does not disable a page’s lazy-loading logic. It can also change loading conditions compared with a repeat visit. Chrome DevTools Network reference.
- Disable JavaScript: DevTools offers a setting to observe a page with JavaScript off, followed by a reload to see how the page depends on JavaScript. This is not a reliable general fix: sites may use JavaScript libraries or IntersectionObserver to load content, so turning JavaScript off may prevent content from appearing or alter the page. Chrome DevTools Preferences; Google Search Central.
Troubleshooting missing content
| What you see | Likely issue | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Images or cards appear only after scrolling | The page loads items when they approach or enter the viewport. | Scroll through the sections needed in the screenshot, pause for the page to respond, then capture. |
| The screenshot ends before the page’s later content | The capture happened before deferred content was triggered, or an infinite-scroll endpoint was not reached. | For a manual capture, continue scrolling to the desired endpoint. For Headless, a timeout adds waiting time but does not perform the necessary scrolling. |
| Network frames show content appearing later | The page’s appearance changes during loading. | Use the frames and their corresponding network activity to identify when the content appeared, then allow for the relevant behavior before taking the final capture. |
| Turning off JavaScript makes the page worse | The page may rely on scripts to render or load the content. | Re-enable JavaScript and use the page normally; Google lists JavaScript-based loading methods among common implementations. |
| Disabling cache does not reveal missing items | Cache behavior and lazy-load triggers are separate concerns. | Restore the cache setting that fits your test and trigger the content through the page’s normal behavior. |

ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API. One GET request can return an image or PDF. The following cURL example saves a screenshot of the target URL; use a real API key in place of YOUR_API_KEY. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Learn about ScreenshotNeo or sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month with no card.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Chrome have a setting that disables all lazy loading?
Chrome’s documented controls do not establish a universal switch for every browser-native and site-scripted lazy-loading implementation. Trigger the page’s own behavior instead.
