If the bar still needs adjusting, apply a temporary CSS override to make it part of normal page flow—or hide it—during the capture. The right fix depends on whether you want the header visible and on how your tool captures the page.
Why sticky headers appear more than once
A sticky or fixed header stays visible as the page scrolls. Some scrolling screenshot tools capture successive viewport slices and combine them; the header can therefore appear in each slice. Other tools capture the full document as one tall page, which avoids that particular stitching problem. “Full-page screenshot” describes the result, not necessarily the capture mechanics, so check the output rather than assuming every tool handles sticky elements the same way.
For example, Playwright describes its full-page screenshot as capturing the full scrollable page as if it fit on a very tall screen. A tool that scrolls and stitches can behave differently. See the Playwright screenshot guide and the Page screenshot API.
Choose the fix that matches the result you want
- Keep the header once: try a full-document capture mode first. If it still appears incorrectly, temporarily change the header’s positioning for the screenshot.
- Remove the header: hide the specific header with a capture-time style.
- Capture only a section: take a screenshot of the relevant element rather than the entire page.
- Make recurring visual tests: use a tool that explicitly handles sticky elements in full-page snapshots, then inspect any affected overlays and descendants.
Test on the actual page: changing positioning can shift layout, and a tool that modifies sticky elements can affect how child elements stack.

- Open Firefox Developer Tools and select Settings.
- Enable the Take a screenshot of the entire page toolbox button.
- Use the screenshot control to capture the page, then inspect the header and content for duplication or overlap.
To capture just one element, open the Inspector, right-click the node, and choose Screenshot Node. Firefox’s Web Console :screenshot helper also supports --fullpage and --selector. See Mozilla’s screenshot documentation for the documented controls and options.

Fix a repeated header in Playwright
Playwright offers a full-page option, locator-level screenshots, and a screenshot-time stylesheet. The example below keeps the selected header visible but changes it to static positioning during capture. Replace header.site-header with the selector for the page’s actual header.

The CSS is a page-specific technique, not a guaranteed universal recipe: verify whether the header still occupies the desired space and whether its children or overlays move. Hide the header instead
If the screenshot should contain no bar, replace the style string with a targeted hide rule:

If the goal is a screenshot of a card, article section, or other specific region, locator capture avoids capturing and stitching the entire page:

For recurring visual snapshots
BrowserStack’s Percy documentation says sticky elements appear once in its full-page snapshots. It also warns that changing sticky elements can change the stacking context for their children. Review overlays, menus, and absolutely positioned descendants in the resulting snapshots. See Percy’s sticky-elements documentation.
For a recurring workflow, compare tools by capture scope (whole document or selected element), whether they stitch viewport slices or transform sticky positioning, the layout impact of any transformation, and whether viewport and page state can be reproduced consistently.
Troubleshooting duplicated or displaced bars
- The header repeats despite selecting full page: the tool may be scrolling and stitching. Try a documented whole-document capture mode and make a small test capture.
- The header disappears or overlaps content after changing it to static: the rule may alter layout or interact with site-specific positioning. Try hiding it instead, or adjust the selector and CSS for that page; verify the rendered image.
- Menus, badges, or overlays move behind other elements: a positioning change can affect stacking behavior. Inspect child elements and their stacking contexts; Percy specifically documents this possibility for sticky elements it modifies.
- The capture includes too much of the page: use an element-level screenshot, such as Playwright’s locator screenshot or Firefox’s Screenshot Node.
- Your CSS rule has no visible effect: confirm the selector matches the rendered header and that the capture applies the stylesheet. Use a narrow, page-specific selector instead of changing every
headerelement.

No. The label does not guarantee a particular capture method; check the tool’s documentation and test the resulting image.

Can I capture an element instead of the whole page?
Yes. Playwright supports locator screenshots, and Firefox supports Screenshot Node in the Inspector.
