First identify which order is changing: the media files playing from an OBS VLC Video source, the visual stacking of OBS scene sources, or the tagged products viewers see in YouTube Shopping. Each is controlled somewhere different. For an OBS media playlist, check Shuffle Playlist; for YouTube Shopping products, rearrange them in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and save.
Identify which order is changing
- Media playback: videos or other media files play in an unexpected sequence in OBS. Check the VLC Video source’s playlist settings.
- Scene layering: a camera, text, image, or other visual element appears in front of or behind another element. This is the order in OBS’s Sources dock, not the playlist sequence.
- YouTube Shopping products: tagged products appear to viewers in a sequence different from the one you intended. Change their order in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
These are separate controls: editing an OBS media playlist does not set YouTube Shopping’s product order, and changing product tags in YouTube Studio does not reorder OBS media playback.

Fix the order of media files playing in OBS
- In OBS, select the scene containing the playlist and open the properties for its VLC Video source.
- Review the file list and locate Shuffle Playlist.
- Turn Shuffle Playlist off to keep playback in the order of the file list. OBS documents Off as the default.
- Confirm the file list itself is in the sequence you want, then apply the change and observe the next playback sequence.
The VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed. OBS specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. If Shuffle Playlist is already off and playback still appears to change order, the documented setting alone does not establish the cause. Diagnosis then depends on the particular playlist, source, and workflow.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix OBS source stacking, not playback order
If the issue is that one visual element covers another, select the relevant scene and inspect the Sources dock. Move sources by dragging them in the list or selecting a source and using the up/down arrow buttons. This changes which scene elements appear on top in the preview; it does not change the order of media files in a VLC playlist.

Fix the order of YouTube Shopping products
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the live stream in Live Control Room.
- Open the Shopping product picker and review the tagged products.
- Drag the products into the desired sequence and save the changes.
- Finish rearranging or removing products at least 30 minutes before the stream begins. YouTube recommends this timing for the best viewer experience.
YouTube says the order in the product picker is the order shown to viewers. However, updated selections may not be visible to some people who are already watching, so a saved change may not appear for every current viewer immediately.
Troubleshoot if the order still looks wrong
OBS media files still play in an unexpected order
- Verify you changed the properties of the VLC Video source that is actually playing, rather than another source or scene.
- Check that Shuffle Playlist is off and inspect the file list’s sequence.
- Confirm VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS; OBS requires 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS.
- If the behavior persists, record your OBS version, operating system, source type, playlist contents, shuffle setting, and the steps that reproduce the issue. OBS’s Help Portal links to its knowledge base, official Discord, forums, and source repository.
YouTube Shopping products still appear out of order
- Reopen the Live Control Room product picker, confirm the intended sequence, and save again.
- Allow for the fact that some viewers already watching may not see updated selections.
- For a planned stream, make changes at least 30 minutes before it starts, following YouTube’s guidance.
