Use fullPage: true for the entire scrollable page; otherwise, Puppeteer captures the viewport. The selectors and success condition must match the website you are automating.
Log in and capture the page in one Puppeteer session
Install Puppeteer in a Node.js project, then use the same Page to submit the login form, verify the signed-in state, navigate to the page you need, and take the screenshot. The example below uses illustrative selectors: replace them with selectors and a success signal from your site.

Choose the right login flow
Ordinary website login form
Most application sign-ins use HTML inputs and a submit button. Use Puppeteer locators to fill the fields and activate the form, then check for a post-login condition such as an account element, a known URL, or content that only authenticated users can see. The exact fields, redirects, and success condition vary by site; the example selectors are not universal. See the Puppeteer page interactions guide.
HTTP authentication
page.authenticate({ username, password }) is for a server’s HTTP authentication challenge, not for filling an ordinary website login form. Puppeteer’s API describes it as providing credentials for HTTP authentication. The method enables request interception behind the scenes, which may affect performance. See Page.authenticate().

Multi-factor authentication and other extra steps
A generic script cannot determine a site’s MFA flow, CAPTCHA policy, or allowed automation method. If the site requires an additional step, handle it only through an authorized method supported by that service; do not treat a successful click as proof of authentication. Confirm the site-specific signed-in state before capturing sensitive content.
Keep the authenticated state in the right browser context
Cookies and local storage belong to a browser context. Puppeteer contexts are isolated from one another, so do not log in in one context and expect another isolated context to inherit that session. The simplest approach is to authenticate and capture using the same page and context, as in the example. See the BrowserContext API.

Puppeteer also documents browser- and context-level cookie methods for reading, setting, and deleting cookies. A particular application may rely on more than cookies, so copying cookies alone is not a general substitute for performing or preserving its full session setup. See the Puppeteer cookies guide.
Wait for the right event before taking the screenshot
When form submission navigates
Start waiting for navigation before clicking the submit button; otherwise, a fast navigation may happen before the wait is registered. Puppeteer documents the race-safe pattern used in the example: Promise.all([page.waitForNavigation(), click]). See Puppeteer request interception guidance.

When the site updates without a document navigation
Some applications submit with JavaScript and update the page in place. In that case, a navigation wait may never resolve. Wait for a specific post-login element or other application condition instead, using a locator or a page condition appropriate to the site. Puppeteer locators automatically wait for elements to be present and in the appropriate state; the interactions guide describes the available patterns.
Why network idle is not enough by itself
page.waitForNetworkIdle() resolves when network activity is idle and always waits at least the configured idle time. That can help when a page is still loading resources, but it does not prove that the exact authenticated content needed for the image has rendered. Prefer a meaningful selector for the dashboard or target content. See Page.waitForNetworkIdle().

Choose screenshot coverage and output
By default, a screenshot covers the current viewport. Set fullPage: true to capture the full scrollable page. Puppeteer’s screenshot options also include path, type, quality, clip, and omitBackground; use the options that match the output you need. See the ScreenshotOptions API.

Common failures and how to fix them
- The script waits forever after clicking Sign in: The form may update the page without a full navigation. Remove the navigation wait and wait for a site-specific success element or URL condition instead.
- The screenshot shows the login page: Authentication may have failed, a redirect may have returned to sign-in, or the success selector may not represent an authenticated state. Check the final URL and verify a real account-only element before going to the target page.
- The target page is blank or incomplete: Navigation completion does not necessarily mean application content is ready. Wait for the content selector that should appear in the screenshot.
- Login works in one tab but not another: The tabs may belong to different isolated browser contexts. Keep the login and capture in the same context, or deliberately transfer all required session state using a site-appropriate method.
- HTTP credentials do not fill the form:
page.authenticate()handles HTTP authentication challenges; use locators to fill an ordinary HTML login form. - Requests stall after enabling interception: Every intercepted request must be continued, responded to, or aborted. Avoid interception unless needed, and ensure the handler resolves every relevant request. See Puppeteer request interception.
