Your channel must be accepted into and remain in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), the stream must comply with monetization and advertiser-friendly policies, and you must have the rights to its video and audio. If the cartoons are intended for children, you should set them as “made for kids”; that limits personalized advertising and disables several interactive features, but contextual ads may still appear. YouTube does not guarantee ad delivery or uninterrupted archiving for a 24/7 stream.
What must be true before a cartoon livestream can earn ad revenue?
There are separate channel-level and content-level checks. Meeting YouTube’s subscriber and viewing thresholds does not itself grant monetization, and acceptance into YPP does not guarantee that ads will run on every stream or reach every viewer.

Your channel must qualify for and pass YPP review
YouTube’s standard eligibility route for ad revenue requires 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified public watch hours on long-form videos in the previous 12 months or 10 million qualified public Shorts views in the previous 90 days. YouTube reviews the channel against its policies; reaching a threshold is not automatic acceptance. Check the current requirements in YouTube’s YPP eligibility guidance.

#1 Best Overall
The stream must satisfy monetization and advertiser-friendly rules
YouTube applies its channel monetization policies to livestreams. It expects content to be an original creation and does not allow channels to rely on mass-produced, generic, repetitive, or manipulative material. A cartoon series can reuse characters and a recognizable format, but each episode should offer distinct substance or value rather than simply repeat substantially identical material. Originality is relevant; it is not a guarantee of YPP approval or ad suitability. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies and advertiser-friendly content guidelines.
You must control the rights to both picture and sound
When creators turn on ads, they confirm they have the necessary rights to the visual and audio content. That includes the cartoons themselves and any music, sound effects, voices, or other material in the broadcast. YouTube’s live-streaming monetization guidance explains this requirement. A stream can be original in its animation while still having a rights problem in its soundtrack.

Should a children’s cartoon be set as “made for kids”?
If the cartoons are directed to children, set the audience accurately. YouTube identifies factors such as animated characters, stories, songs, language, subject matter, and intended audience when deciding whether content is made for kids. The creator is responsible for the audience setting; do not use a different setting to try to preserve advertising or interaction features. Review YouTube’s guidance on determining whether content is made for kids.

Made-for-kids content is not necessarily ad-free: personalized ads are disabled, but contextual ads may still appear. YouTube also disables live chat and chat donations, Super Chat, and Super Stickers for made-for-kids content. Memberships and merchandise features are restricted as well. These limits make chat-based revenue an unreliable option for a children’s cartoon stream. YouTube lists the effects in its made-for-kids audience setting guidance.

How ads work during an eligible livestream
Eligible creators may enable pre-roll and mid-roll ads. Mid-rolls can be automatic or inserted manually, but an available ad slot is not a promise that an ad will fill it. YouTube’s ad system determines whether an ad serves, and individual viewers are not guaranteed to see one. Ads are turned off for a livestream when its player is embedded on an external website with autoplay enabled. The Watch Page Monetization Module is required for Watch Page ads on long-form or live videos; see YouTube’s livestream monetization guidance.
YouTube reported that automatic live mid-rolls were associated with an average uplift of over 20% in instream ad revenue per hour compared with channels that did not enable them. This was a YouTube-reported comparison across 207 countries in January 2024, not a prediction for a particular channel, cartoon category, or 24/7 broadcast. Details are in YouTube’s January 2024 announcement.

What changes when the broadcast runs 24/7?
YouTube’s published guidance does not establish a general ban on a continuous 24/7 cartoon livestream, nor does it guarantee monetization for that format. The most concrete operational caveat is the archive: streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while YouTube warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If keeping a replay matters, make a separate local recording rather than relying on the YouTube archive. YouTube recommends a local archive backup in its live-streaming archive guidance. It does not specify a storage device or promise that splitting a continuous broadcast will satisfy monetization review.
Practical checks before going live
- Check channel status: Confirm YPP eligibility and approval, then accept the Watch Page Monetization Module if you want Watch Page ad revenue.
- Review the actual stream: Make sure the episodes are meaningfully distinct and comply with monetization and advertiser-friendly policies, not just that the animation is yours.
- Confirm rights: Verify permission for every visual and audio element, including music and sound effects.
- Set the audience accurately: If the cartoons are child-directed, mark them made for kids and plan around the resulting limits.
- Protect the replay: Record a local archive if you need a copy, because a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your cartoons are uploaded videos rather than a live camera feed, StreamNeo can keep a YouTube channel live by looping uploaded videos or a playlist from the cloud. Upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay running at home; videos stream as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and the service automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. This automates continuous playback, not YPP approval, audience classification, rights clearance, or ad delivery. Start your free StreamNeo day.
