Sign in through the website’s normal password-and-authenticator flow, then capture the page with a browser or device screenshot method the site and your organization permit. You do not need to screenshot the authenticator app or its one-time code. Capture only the necessary page area, then inspect the image before saving or sharing it.
Sign in normally, then capture the page
- Open the private page and complete sign-in. Enter your password and respond to the site’s authenticator prompt using the method it requests. App-generated codes are one way to complete a second verification step for Google Accounts; the exact methods depend on the site. Google Account Help describes its verification options.
- Return to the page you need. Once the private content is visible, choose the smallest area that contains the information you need. Keep the authenticator screen and current code out of the capture.
- Use a permitted screenshot method. Firefox’s built-in screenshot feature can capture a selected area or page and save it as an image or copy it to the clipboard. A saved file goes to Firefox’s default download folder. Mozilla’s Firefox Screenshots guide documents the controls.
- Inspect the result before sharing. Open the image at full size and check for account names, email addresses, unrelated private content, recovery details, or a one-time code. Crop or redact anything unnecessary, and share it only through an appropriate channel.
Screenshot controls differ by operating system, browser version, and device, so there is no single shortcut that works everywhere. If Firefox’s capture feature is unavailable or unsuitable, use a device capture method only if it is allowed by the site and any applicable work or school policy.

Keep authenticator codes separate from the webpage image
The authenticator is for completing the requested sign-in step; its screen is not needed to document the signed-in webpage. Microsoft says its Authenticator verification codes do not require internet or mobile data, while sign-in notifications do require an internet connection. Microsoft also explains the separate-device rationale for authenticator design: “Having the second factor of a security question on a separate device enhances security.” That is Microsoft Support’s guidance about authenticator design, not a rule that every website requires a second device. Microsoft Authenticator for Android has a separate Screen Capture setting that allows OTP codes to appear in screenshots; Microsoft says to turn it on in Settings and restart the app. That setting concerns screenshots of the authenticator’s OTP display. It is not a prerequisite for taking a screenshot of a webpage after sign-in. Avoid enabling it just to capture a webpage.

If the screenshot option is missing or blocked
Firefox’s built-in capture is not available
Check the screenshot controls in the Firefox version installed on your device and use a supported operating-system capture method if permitted. Mozilla’s guide notes that moving the screenshot crosshair does not work on Wayland, so use the available controls for your environment instead. The older MozillaWiki FAQ says Firefox Screenshots was unavailable in Private Browsing, but it is undated and may describe an older product state; check the interface in your installed version rather than assuming that applies to every current release. Capture is disabled on a managed device
A work or school administrator may intentionally prevent screenshots. Google documents Chrome Enterprise Premium controls that can permit or prevent screenshots on selected websites; the restriction can cover keyboard shortcuts and apps or extensions that use Chrome’s capture API. The documented policy varies by platform, and Google says the setting is unavailable on Linux. If capture is blocked, ask the administrator or site owner for an authorized exception or an approved documentation method. Do not try to bypass the restriction. Where the screenshot goes and what the browser feature collects
Firefox’s documented screenshot tool lets you download an image or copy it to the clipboard; a download is saved in Firefox’s default download folder. Mozilla says the Firefox Screenshots feature collects interaction data such as use of Copy or Save full page, but does not collect the URL or details of the captured image. That statement applies to the documented Firefox feature only; it does not establish what other extensions, operating-system tools, cloud backups, or workplace monitoring collect. If you are authorized to capture a page that is publicly reachable, ScreenshotNeo provides a screenshot API and MCP server. A private page behind login is not made accessible by an API call: do not send credentials or use an API to bypass authentication or a managed capture policy. For a permitted public page, one GET request returns an image or PDF. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie-consent banners and removes known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents using Claude, Cursor, or another MCP client. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Learn about ScreenshotNeo. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month with no card.
