If you’re already signed in and can view the page, capture it from that browser session: use a regular screen capture for what’s visible, or a browser’s full-page tool for the scrollable page. A screenshot records only what the authorized session renders; it cannot reveal article content the publisher has blocked. If access is blocked, use the publisher’s authorized access route.
Choose the capture method for the job

Click the screenshot button in the browser toolbar, then choose the full-page capture option. Firefox saves the image in Downloads. Menu labels can vary by Firefox version; see Mozilla’s screenshot instructions.
Firefox’s tool can also capture a selected area or element. A full-page capture covers the scrollable rendered document; it does not retrieve hidden or unrendered content.
Automate a capture with Playwright
Playwright’s screenshot API supports full-page capture, meaning the full scrollable page rather than only the viewport. An authorized logged-in session can be used for automation, but do not casually reuse your everyday browser profile or expose saved authentication data.

Option 1: Load saved authentication state
First create and save a Playwright authentication state by signing in through a browser instance you control. The following example assumes you have saved that state as playwright/.auth/user.json and that your project uses Playwright Test:

});Replace the example URL with the page you are permitted to access. The state file can contain cookies or headers that allow someone else to impersonate your account. Keep it out of public repositories and shared folders; consult Playwright’s authentication guidance.
Option 2: Use a separate persistent browser profile
A persistent context stores session data in a user-data directory. Use a dedicated directory for automation rather than pointing Chromium or Chrome at the main default profile; Playwright warns that automating the default profile this way may fail. A basic JavaScript example:

The screenshot shows a paywall or sign-in prompt: Check that the browser is using the authorized account and that the page is accessible in that session. A capture cannot unlock content the page does not render.

The full-page image cuts off content: Confirm that the page has finished rendering and that the full-page option, rather than viewport capture, was selected. Some pages load additional content as you scroll; a screenshot only records content rendered by the page.

Playwright is not signed in: Verify that the saved state was created after a successful sign-in and is loaded from the correct path. Authentication sessions can expire, requiring an authorized sign-in again.

Launching with the usual Chrome profile fails: Use a separate persistent user-data directory or Playwright’s documented attach workflow instead of automating the main default profile.

The capture process exposes account access: Treat saved state files and browser profile directories as secrets. Restrict access and avoid committing them to source control.
