What you need to verify before relying on a used PC
A continuous stream is a system, not just an OBS setting. The computer, encoder, cooling, internet connection, power and recovery plan all matter. OBS says its system requirements establish compatibility, not guaranteed streaming performance; CPU demands vary with encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity. - Inspect the operating system, graphics adapter, storage, cooling, fans, ports and general condition. OBS’s published Windows baseline is Windows 10 or 11 and a DirectX 10.1-compatible GPU; treat that as a floor, not a purchase specification.
- Check that the machine can run the current OBS version and that its available hardware encoder supports your intended output. Hardware encoding can move work from the CPU to a GPU encoding component, but capability and quality depend on the hardware generation. Do not assume an old GPU will encode well without testing. - Use a simple scene: a static visual, the intended microphone or program audio, and only essential overlays. Add the actual sources you plan to use during the test.
- Prefer a wired network connection if practical. Test the actual connection and upload stability at the intended bitrate; there is no universal household bandwidth threshold established for Indian YouTube streams.

Set up the channel before your planned start time. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restrictions in the past 90 days; enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours. Follow YouTube’s current live-streaming tips and encoder setup guide.

- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and open its stream settings.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown by YouTube into OBS’s stream settings. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to control the broadcast.
- In OBS, run Tools → Auto-Configuration Wizard and apply its suggested configuration as a starting point. The result is not a substitute for a sustained test.
- Add the simple visual and audio sources you intend to use. Confirm the microphone or program audio is audible and not clipping.
- Start an unlisted test if appropriate. Check the YouTube preview and stream health, as well as OBS for dropped frames or encoding strain, before switching to a public broadcast.
Choose conservative settings, then test them
For a low-motion podcast visual, 720p at 30 fps is a reasonable starting point if the computer and connection sustain it. This is practical guidance, not an official minimum. Choose the bitrate for the codec and resolution using YouTube’s live encoder settings, and lower the output if the test shows instability.

YouTube’s encoder settings allow up to 60 fps, but a spoken-word show with a static visual rarely needs that higher frame rate. The settings page’s bitrate figures are recommendations, not a promise that a particular PC or ISP can maintain them. YouTube live encoder settings.

Plan for interruptions, restarts and archives
YouTube advises creators to test failover and monitor the stream. Test what happens when the internet briefly drops and when OBS is restarted; do this before treating the setup as dependable. A UPS may help through a short power interruption, but the right capacity and runtime depend on the PC and connected network equipment and cannot be inferred without measuring your setup.
- Keep a recovery procedure you can follow: check the PC and internet, reopen OBS if needed, confirm the correct stream is selected, and check YouTube preview and stream health after reconnecting.
- Consider local recording if preserving the complete program matters, and confirm you have storage for it.
- YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish automatic archiving for one continuous 24-hour broadcast. If a complete archive matters, plan separate broadcast segments or a local recording, and verify YouTube’s current behavior before relying on an archive. YouTube encoder setup.
Use original or properly cleared material
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects material, it may replace the video with a placeholder, interrupt or terminate the broadcast, and may claim an archived stream after the broadcast ends. A license does not necessarily prevent a live interruption: the rights holder may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID. Use original or properly cleared audio and visuals, and review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Rights to play content and YouTube’s reused-content rules are separate considerations. Do not assume that permission to use a recording guarantees monetization eligibility or prevents platform action. Check the terms and policies that apply to your material and channel.
India-specific bandwidth and running-cost considerations
The National Informatics Centre lists 2–4 Mbps of dedicated bandwidth per stream for its hired-agency webcast scenario. That figure is scoped to that service context; it is not a universal YouTube bitrate or a guarantee for a household connection in India.
