Why the button must be handled before the screenshot
A full-page screenshot captures the content currently laid out across the page’s scrollable area. A “Load more” control commonly adds items only after an interaction, so the screenshot cannot include those items until the page has loaded them. Playwright’s screenshot guide describes a full-page image as a capture of the full scrollable page, while its interaction guidance covers actions such as clicking and scrolling separately: Playwright screenshots and Playwright input.

Choose the capture scope deliberately: use fullPage: true for the full scrollable page, a locator screenshot for one element, or the default viewport screenshot for only what is currently visible.

This Node.js example uses Playwright Test’s expect assertion. Replace the URL, button name, and card selector with values that match the target site. It stops when the button is gone or disabled, and includes a click limit so a page that never progresses cannot loop forever.

});Install the test runner with npm install -D @playwright/test, then run the file with npx playwright test. The example expects the site to expose a button named “Load more” and result items matching .result-card; those are illustrative selectors, not universal site conventions.
Adapt the wait and stopping condition to the page
Wait for evidence that the click worked
Counting cards is a useful signal when each added item remains in the DOM. In other cases, wait for a known next item, a loading indicator to disappear, a status message to change, or the button to become disabled or disappear. A click completing does not necessarily mean the page’s asynchronous update has finished. Playwright’s documentation does not define one universal “load more finished” signal; the correct condition depends on the application.

Stop for a reason
Set a desired item count when the screenshot only needs a particular number of results. Otherwise, stop when the control is unavailable, disabled, or the page exposes a clear end-of-list state. Keep a click limit or deadline in production jobs, and decide what to do if the target count is not reached: save a partial capture with a warning, or fail the job instead of silently treating it as complete.

Handle scroll-triggered loading
Some pages load more items only when the list is scrolled, or when a target near its bottom comes into view. Playwright actions generally scroll their targets into view automatically; its input guidance also explains how to scroll a target into view when needed. If the list itself is a nested scrolling container, scroll that container rather than assuming the main page scroll will trigger loading.

Check for virtualized lists
A virtualized list may keep only a subset of items in the DOM while reusing or replacing elements during scrolling. In that case, a full-page screenshot may not represent every item previously loaded. Verify the target page’s rendering behavior and, if necessary, capture sections as you scroll or use the application’s export/data interface.
Choose the right screenshot scope
- Full page:

Troubleshooting
- The screenshot omits newly expected items: Confirm the click actually adds them and that the wait checks the right selector or state. Do not take the screenshot immediately after clicking.
- The button locator finds nothing: Check whether the control is exposed as a button with the accessible name you used. If its role or name differs, use a locator based on the site’s actual accessible markup.
- The wait times out: The site may have failed to load, the selector may be wrong, or the page may signal completion in another way. Inspect the page state and choose a page-specific condition; do not merely increase the timeout without checking.
- The loop never reaches the target: The list may have ended, the target may exceed the available results, or the page may require scrolling. Log the final count and distinguish a valid end state from a failed click.
- Scrolling does not load more: Identify whether the page or a nested container owns the scrolling behavior, then bring the relevant bottom-area target into view.
- The full-page image still misses content: Check whether the page uses virtualization or whether some resources are still loading. A full-page option changes the capture extent; it does not guarantee every earlier item remains rendered.
