Use Selenium to capture the page as it appears, but do not try to automate or bypass the CAPTCHA. Open an authorized login page, wait for the challenge or other target state to render, then save either a browser screenshot or a screenshot of the CAPTCHA element. If the test must proceed past verification, pause for an authorized person or use a test-only CAPTCHA configuration provided by the app owner.
Choose what you need to capture
A driver screenshot records the browser’s visible page view, which is useful for documenting the overall login state. An element screenshot records only the CAPTCHA widget or another selected element, making it easier to inspect that component. Selenium API names and support vary by language binding, so check the documentation for the binding and version in use. Capture the login page with Selenium in Python
The example below waits for the login page’s CAPTCHA element to appear before saving the browser screenshot. Replace the URL and CSS selector with values from your authorized test app. Install Selenium and configure a compatible browser and WebDriver before running it.

Handle verification without bypassing it
A CAPTCHA is a human-verification mechanism intended to help distinguish people from automated traffic. Google notes that a user may be asked to complete an on-screen challenge. If it appears during an authorized test, capture the challenge as rendered or pause so an authorized human can complete it. Do not treat CAPTCHA solving or bypassing as a dependable test step.
For repeatable automated login tests, ask the application owner for a test environment or a test-only CAPTCHA configuration. The right approach depends on how the app integrates verification. Google documents, for example, reCAPTCHA v2 checkbox flows that may pass directly or show a challenge, and reCAPTCHA v3, which returns a score for site-specific actions without a visible user interaction. Troubleshoot screenshot failures
- The CAPTCHA is missing from the screenshot: wait for the specific widget or challenge state, rather than relying on navigation alone. Confirm the selector matches the rendered page and that the element is visible.
- The element lookup times out: verify the selector in the authorized app and check whether the CAPTCHA is rendered in a frame or only after a user action. The example assumes the target can be found with the supplied CSS selector; adapt the lookup to the app’s actual DOM and integration.
- The screenshot is blank or incomplete: ensure the intended content has rendered before capture. A page load event alone may not mean the widget is ready, particularly when it appears asynchronously.
- Login does not continue after the screenshot: a screenshot does not complete verification. Use an authorized human step or the app owner’s test configuration; do not add automated bypass logic.
- A completed challenge no longer works: verification may expire. Arrange the test so the human step occurs at the appropriate point, or use an owner-provided test setup.
- The method name differs: confirm the screenshot API for the Selenium language binding and version you are using. The code here uses Python’s driver and WebElement screenshot methods.
