How to Schedule YouTube Playlist Rotations with Streamlabs Desktop

YouTube can schedule an encoder-based live event and manage playlist order separately. Here’s how to set up each part—and what Streamlabs’ official guide does not establish about timed rotation.

You can schedule a YouTube live event in YouTube Studio and manage playlist order separately on YouTube, but the official Streamlabs Desktop guide does not establish a built-in timer for rotating playlists or switching sources on a schedule. The right workflow depends on whether you mean repeating one playlist, changing content at set times, or scheduling separate live events.

First, decide what “playlist rotation” means

  • Repeat one playlist: YouTube’s loop control repeats that playlist in the YouTube player. It is a playback action, not a scheduled switch between playlists. YouTube’s playlist-loop instructions describe the player control.
  • Change content on a timetable: This would require an automatic timed switch among playlists or sources. Streamlabs’ Quick Start Guide explains scenes and sources, but does not document a timed playlist-rotation procedure. The guide therefore does not establish that this feature is available; check current Streamlabs documentation or the current app before relying on it.
  • Schedule a live event: YouTube Studio can schedule an encoder-based stream as an upcoming event. Scheduling the event does not itself schedule playlist changes within the broadcast.

Prepare and order the YouTube playlist

  1. On YouTube from a computer, create a playlist or open one you already manage.
  2. Set its visibility, add the videos you intend to include, and arrange them in the required playback order. YouTube’s playlist help for computers covers creating, editing, and reordering playlists.
  3. If you only need the playlist to repeat in YouTube’s player, start playback and use the player’s loop control. This repeats the current playlist; it does not create a schedule that changes to another playlist.

Schedule the live event in YouTube Studio

  1. Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to open Live Control Room.
  2. Open Manage, choose Schedule stream, and create a stream or reuse stream settings. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain the scheduling workflow.
  3. Configure the event details and schedule it. The upcoming event can have a shareable URL and viewer reminder options; YouTube’s live stream settings help covers settings that can be reused.
  4. In your encoder, connect using the stream URL and stream key shown for the event. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to send video to your channel.
  5. Start the encoder when you are ready to send the feed, then check Live Control Room for the incoming stream and event status.

Set up Streamlabs Desktop scenes and sources

In Streamlabs Desktop, a scene holds the layout for your broadcast and sources provide the visual or audio content in that layout. The Streamlabs quick-start guide walks through adding sources and setting up a stream.

  1. Create or select the scene you want to broadcast.
  2. Add and arrange the sources needed for that scene, then check what appears and plays in the preview.
  3. Connect Streamlabs Desktop to the scheduled YouTube event with its stream URL and key, following the current Streamlabs connection controls.
  4. Before going live, confirm that the correct scene is selected and that the video and audio are working.

These scene and source steps set up the stream layout; they should not be treated as proof of scheduled playlist rotation. The official Streamlabs setup guide cited above does not provide an in-app timer or a timed source-switch procedure.

Choose a schedule viewers can follow

A scheduled YouTube event and a recurring content rotation are separate things. YouTube recommends a sustainable, consistent live schedule and communicating changes to viewers in its live upload schedule tips. Reusing stream settings can reduce repeated event setup, but neither scheduling an event nor repeating a playlist establishes automatic rotation between playlists.
