The steps below follow Buffer’s current product guidance; available formats and limits can vary with your account plan and changes to X.
Connect your X account to Buffer

Sign in to Buffer and connect the X account you want to manage. Follow the authorization prompts to allow Buffer to access that account.

Open the post composer by selecting Create Post. In the composer, select the X profile as the destination. Buffer’s instructions and supported-format overview are on its X scheduling page.

Create and preview an X post
Write the post in the composer, then add any media or link you want to include. Buffer lists text posts, threads, single-image posts, posts with up to four images, GIFs, videos, reposts, quote posts, and link previews among the formats it supports. Availability can depend on current Buffer and X conditions; check the composer for what is available to your account.

Review the preview before scheduling. For a link preview, Buffer’s general scheduling guidance says the post must be no longer than 280 characters because of API limitations. If the preview matters, put the URL within the first 280 characters and confirm the result in Buffer before publishing. See Buffer’s scheduling guide.
Choose a queue slot or a custom time
After composing, choose the publishing method that fits the post:

Queueing follows your channel schedule; a custom time gives you control over a particular date and hour. Suggested times are guidance, not a guarantee of reach. Buffer describes the options in its general scheduling guide.

Schedule a thread
Buffer says thread creation is available on its web app, not its mobile app. Create the thread on the web, review the sequence, and schedule it using the composer’s available publishing options. Buffer documents a maximum of 25 sub-posts in a thread. Its help article also says you can reschedule or delete a thread created on web from mobile; check the current article for plan-specific details and legacy-plan differences: Scheduling X (Twitter) posts with Buffer.

Check character and queue limits
Character limits depend on the X account tier
Buffer’s developer documentation lists 280 characters for X Free and 25,000 for X Basic, Premium, and Premium+. These are Buffer’s documented limits, not a promise that every account or composer will behave identically as X and its API change. Buffer counts many characters in UTF-16 code units, so an emoji or styled Unicode symbol may use two units even when it looks like one character. Check the composer’s validation before publishing. Queue capacity is not a daily posting limit
Buffer’s current help material lists queue capacity per channel as 10 scheduled posts on Free and 5,000 on Essentials and Team. These figures describe how many posts can be held in the queue, not how many you may publish per day or month. How far ahead a queue extends depends on the channel’s posting frequency. Check Buffer’s queue-capacity help article and scheduling guide for the current figures.
One X account can be selected per scheduled post
Buffer’s X help article says only one X account can be selected at a time when scheduling. If you manage multiple X accounts, create or schedule the post for each account separately rather than assuming one selection will publish to all of them. X also does not allow duplicate posts, according to Buffer’s help guidance; revise repeated copy before scheduling.

Fix common scheduling problems

The post will not fit: Check the limit for your X tier and Buffer’s character counter, especially if the post includes emoji or styled Unicode. Shorten the text or verify that your account tier supports longer posts.

The link preview is missing: If the post exceeds 280 characters, Buffer says X link previews are unavailable because of API limitations. Keep the URL within the first 280 characters and inspect the preview.

You cannot add another queued post: Check the per-channel queue capacity for your Buffer plan. A full queue does not mean you have reached a daily posting limit; publish, remove, or reschedule an item if you need to free a slot.

You cannot create a thread on mobile: Buffer documents thread creation on web only. Create it in the web app, then use mobile to reschedule or delete that web-created thread if needed.

A duplicate is rejected: X does not allow duplicate posts as described in Buffer’s help material. Change the wording rather than submitting identical copy again.
