HTMLCSStoImage creates a screenshot when it receives an API request; a separate scheduler must send that request on your chosen recurring schedule. For a public webpage, authenticate a server-side POST to https://hcti.io/v1/image, save or record the returned image URL, then arrange a cron job or scheduled workflow to repeat it. The reviewed HTMLCSStoImage documentation describes per-request captures and automation integrations, but does not document a recurring schedule built into the screenshot endpoint.
How scheduled screenshots work
Think of the process as two separate jobs: the scheduler decides when to run, and HTMLCSStoImage renders the page when it receives the API request. The API does not itself define the recurring cadence in the documented endpoint. You can trigger it from a cron-based process or a workflow automation service; HTMLCSStoImage lists n8n, Zapier, and Make as integration options. HTMLCSStoImage documentation describes the API and integrations.

Before setting up a workflow, choose the public page or pages to capture, the cadence and scheduler timezone, the screenshot settings, and where the resulting images should be kept. The scheduler’s timezone controls the run time; the API’s timezone parameter controls the browser rendering timezone and is not a substitute for a scheduler timezone.
Make a single HTMLCSStoImage capture
Use an authenticated POST to https://hcti.io/v1/image, with url set to the webpage. The API uses HTTP Basic authentication with your API ID and API key. Store both as secrets in the server environment or scheduler’s credential vault; do not put them in browser-side JavaScript or a public repository. The vendor advises treating the key like a password and scoping its permissions.

cURL example
Set the credentials in your shell environment and run the request from a server or scheduled process. This example captures a public page and asks for a full-height image:
export HCTI_API_ID="YOUR_API_ID"
export HCTI_API_KEY="YOUR_API_KEY"
curl -u "$HCTI_API_ID:$HCTI_API_KEY"
-X POST https://hcti.io/v1/image
-d url=https://example.com
-d full_screen=true
The response contains the generated image URL. Parse and record that URL, or download the image into storage you control if you need an archive. The API documentation lists PNG, JPG, WebP, and PDF output formats; check the current parameter documentation for the exact format option and supported values.
Python example
This example uses environment variables so the credentials are not embedded in the source. Install the dependency with python -m pip install requests.

Node.js example
Run this in a server-side Node.js process with HCTI_API_ID and HCTI_API_KEY configured in its environment. It uses the built-in fetch available in current Node.js releases.
const id = process.env.HCTI_API_ID;
const key = process.env.HCTI_API_KEY;
if (!id || !key) throw new Error("Set HCTI_API_ID and HCTI_API_KEY");
const body = new URLSearchParams({
url: "https://example.com",
full_screen: "true",
});
const authorization = Buffer.from(`${id}:${key}`).toString("base64");
const response = await fetch("https://hcti.io/v1/image", {
method: "POST",
headers: {
Authorization: `Basic ${authorization}`,
"Content-Type": "application/x-www-form-urlencoded",
},
body,
});
if (!response.ok) {
throw new Error(`HTMLCSStoImage request failed: HTTP ${response.status} ${await response.text()}`);
}
const result = await response.json();
console.log(result.url);
Turn the request into a recurring job
- Pick the capture list. Start with one public URL, or keep a list and have your job iterate over it. Confirm that the target page is publicly accessible; the documented URL parameter is for a public URL, so do not assume private or authenticated pages will work without verifying the current support and configuration.
- Choose cadence and timezone in the scheduler. Configure the recurrence in cron, a scheduled workflow, or an automation platform. Use the scheduler’s timezone setting for the desired local run time. Do not use the API browser
timezoneparameter to set the recurrence. - Store credentials securely. Add the API ID and key to the scheduler’s secret store or the server’s environment. Send the request from that backend process, not from a visitor’s browser.
- Set only needed capture options. Add the URL and settings for the result you want; examples include full-height capture, selector cropping, viewport settings, output format, and a JavaScript delay or maximum wait for pages that need time to render.
- Record each run. Save the run timestamp, target URL, result image URL, and outcome. If the image needs to remain available independently of the account, download it to storage you control.
- Handle failures deliberately. Log HTTP errors and missed runs, and define retries in the scheduler or workflow. Avoid retrying indefinitely; use a bounded retry policy and alert or record persistent failures.
Choose a scheduler approach
| Approach | Best fit | What to configure and verify |
|---|---|---|
| Cron or a scheduled server job | Developers who want direct control over code, URL lists, output handling, and logs. | Set recurrence and timezone in the job environment, provision secrets safely, and implement logging, retries, and image storage. |
| Workflow automation | Readers who prefer to connect a recurring trigger to an HTTP/API action with less custom code. | HTMLCSStoImage lists n8n, Zapier, and Make. Verify the chosen platform’s current recurrence, timezone, secret-storage, retry, run-history, storage, and plan-limit behavior; those details vary by platform and plan. |
The HTMLCSStoImage docs say the API works with any language that can make HTTP requests. They identify those automation services, but their exact current feature sets and prices should be checked with the providers before you commit to a workflow.

Capture settings that matter on a schedule
- Full page versus a component: use
full_screenfor a full-height page capture. Useselectorwhen only a specific element is relevant. - JavaScript-heavy pages: use
ms_delayto wait a chosen interval orrender_when_readywhen the page needs to signal readiness. Use the documented maximum-wait control to bound waiting time. - Consistent rendering: set viewport dimensions and, where relevant, the browser rendering timezone. Choose an output format appropriate to downstream use; the docs list PNG, JPG, WebP, and PDF.
- Avoid unnecessary work: capture only the pages and page regions you need. For a large URL list, confirm current account image credits and API throttling limits, and ensure the scheduler can process the list without losing track of partial failures.

Store and manage the resulting images
The API returns an image URL that can be used directly or downloaded. HTMLCSStoImage documentation says image URLs remain available while the account is active. That is not a promise of permanent retention after account closure, nor a universal retention guarantee for every plan. If the screenshots are records you need to keep, download them to storage you control and retain a timestamp, target URL, and status alongside each file.
Plan for growth in both request volume and storage: a schedule that captures several URLs multiple times per day creates a larger image archive than a single daily capture. Check the account’s current image-credit allowance and throttling limits, and set alerts or failure logs when a run cannot complete.

Troubleshooting scheduled captures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| HTTP 401 | Credentials are missing or invalid. | Check that the job has both the correct API ID and API key, that secret names map to the intended environment variables, and that the Basic authentication value is constructed correctly. |
| HTTP 403 | The credentials do not have sufficient permission. | Review the key’s scope and account permissions; use credentials authorized for image creation. |
| HTTP 429 | The account reached an image-credit limit or API throttling applied. | Inspect the response and account limits, reduce or spread request volume, and use bounded retries for throttling rather than immediately resubmitting in a tight loop. |
| Request succeeds but the capture is incomplete | The page may still be rendering when capture occurs, or the selected capture area is not the intended one. | Check the URL and selector, use an appropriate JavaScript delay or readiness setting, review maximum wait, and confirm full-page versus element capture settings. |
| Scheduled run never happens or runs at the wrong local time | The recurrence or timezone is configured in the scheduler, not the screenshot API. | Inspect the scheduler’s enabled state, recurrence rule, timezone, and execution logs. Keep the browser rendering timezone separate. |
| Image URL is logged but no long-term archive exists | The workflow records the returned URL but does not download or copy the image to durable storage. | Add a download and storage step, then record the stored object location with the run metadata. |

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server; a recurring scheduler can call its screenshot endpoint just as it can call any screenshot API. For a scheduled public-page capture, the one-call request is:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie/consent banners and removes 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those steps can each be turned off. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed. Its MCP server gives AI agents tools to take screenshots, inspect page info, and capture PDFs. The free plan includes 1,000 shots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
