To capture a website automatically on an India-local schedule, run browser automation in an AWS Lambda function in the Mumbai region, invoke it with Amazon EventBridge Scheduler, and save each image to Amazon S3. Set the schedule’s time zone to Asia/Kolkata so a cron time means Indian Standard Time rather than UTC.
The scheduler controls when Lambda is invoked; your function still needs a working browser-capture implementation. AWS’s screenshot example demonstrates the overall pattern, but it is archived and specifies Node.js 12.x, so use current AWS documentation and a browser package compatible with the Lambda runtime you deploy.

How the scheduled screenshot workflow fits together
The workflow has three separate jobs:
- EventBridge Scheduler evaluates a recurring or one-time schedule and invokes the target.
- AWS Lambda runs browser automation that loads the URL, captures the page, and returns or stores the screenshot.
- Amazon S3 keeps image files beyond the Lambda invocation when you need a persistent history.
Scheduler invokes Lambda asynchronously, as described in AWS’s schedule a Lambda function guide. This means a successful schedule delivery is not proof that the website rendered correctly or that the browser produced a valid image. Check the Lambda execution logs and the resulting S3 object separately.

Choose a recurring or one-time schedule
Use a rate expression for a regular interval, a cron expression when the capture needs to run at particular calendar times, or a one-time schedule for a single future capture. EventBridge Scheduler supports cron and one-time schedules with a selectable time zone. Set that zone to Asia/Kolkata for Indian civil time; the expression is interpreted in the selected zone.

For example, to run once a day at 9:00 a.m. India time, use a cron expression such as cron(0 9 * * ? *) and choose Asia/Kolkata in the schedule’s time-zone setting. The exact console fields can change, so verify the saved schedule’s expression and time zone before enabling it.
India does not observe daylight saving time, so a daily schedule at a fixed India-local time does not face the spring-forward or fall-back clock changes seen in some regions. Explicitly selecting Asia/Kolkata also makes the intended wall clock unambiguous.
Use the right AWS scheduling feature
Do not confuse Scheduler with older EventBridge scheduled rules. AWS’s troubleshooting guidance for scheduled rules says to check that the expression uses UTC+0; that advice concerns the legacy rule mechanism, not Scheduler’s selectable time-zone feature. Build the Lambda capture function
Create a Lambda function that accepts the destination URL and capture options in its event payload. The function must launch a browser, navigate to the page, wait for a useful readiness condition, capture the page, then write the image to S3 if you need durable storage. The event payload can carry values such as the URL, output format, and destination key, but the browser implementation and its dependencies are your responsibility.
Browser binaries and automation libraries must be packaged in a way that works with your chosen Lambda runtime and deployment configuration. AWS’s archived headless Chromium screenshot sample illustrates periodic page loading, screenshot capture, and S3 storage, but it was archived on July 14, 2025 and lists Node.js 12.x. Treat it as an architecture example, not a current deployment recipe.
Grant invocation permission
The schedule needs an execution role that allows it to invoke the Lambda target. AWS’s Lambda console scheduling flow can create a suitable role; if you create the schedule through the CLI or infrastructure-as-code, configure the role and permission explicitly. Follow AWS’s current Scheduler-to-Lambda setup guide for the supported configuration.

Deploy in AWS Mumbai and store results
AWS lists EventBridge Scheduler as available in Asia Pacific (Mumbai). Create the schedule in the Mumbai region if that is your intended regional configuration, and confirm that every other component you plan to use—including Lambda and S3—is available and configured in the same region as needed. The official AWS regional services list is the place to check regional availability.
Write each successful capture to S3 with an object key that distinguishes runs, for example a date-and-time-based path. This makes it easier to retain a history and to detect missing runs. Decide separately how long to retain objects and who can access them; a scheduled screenshot is not automatically private or publicly accessible merely because it is stored in S3.
Operational checks, retries, and failure handling
Scheduler delivery and successful page capture are different failure domains. Configure retries, a flexible time window, or a dead-letter destination where appropriate, but these controls address delivery and invocation handling; they cannot make a CAPTCHA pass, guarantee a site response, or repair browser code.

- Confirm invocation: inspect the Lambda function’s CloudWatch logs after a scheduled run, as AWS recommends in its schedule invocation guide.
- Confirm capture: log the requested URL, relevant execution outcome, and S3 write result without recording secrets such as authorization headers.
- Confirm persistence: verify that the expected object exists in the target bucket and that its key is unique for the run.
- Separate causes: a missing invocation suggests schedule, permission, or delivery configuration; an invocation with no valid image suggests the browser, target site, or storage path.
Troubleshoot common problems
The schedule did not run at the expected local time
Check that the schedule is enabled, its cron fields express the intended time, and its time-zone setting is Asia/Kolkata. If you are using an older scheduled rule rather than EventBridge Scheduler, its UTC guidance applies; do not assume its behavior matches Scheduler’s time-zone selection.
The schedule ran but Lambda was not invoked
Check the schedule’s target configuration and execution role. The role must grant permission to invoke the selected Lambda function. For CLI or infrastructure-as-code deployments, verify the configured role rather than relying on the console’s role-creation flow.

Inspect the function logs and distinguish navigation, browser launch, capture, and S3-write failures. Confirm that the deployed browser components are compatible with the Lambda runtime and that the target URL is reachable from the function. The archived AWS sample is not evidence that its older Node.js 12.x packaging remains suitable for a current deployment.

The run is delayed or retried
Review the schedule’s flexible time window and retry/dead-letter configuration. A flexible window can permit invocation within a window rather than at one exact instant. Retries can redeliver an invocation, so use a deterministic or unique S3 key strategy that avoids accidental overwrites if duplicate runs matter.

Can the schedule run only once?
Yes. EventBridge Scheduler supports one-time schedules as well as recurring cron and rate schedules.
Does running Scheduler in Mumbai ensure the website itself is accessed from India?
The schedule’s region identifies where the AWS scheduling resource is configured. The browser’s network path depends on where and how the capture function runs; verify the regions and networking of the deployed components rather than inferring the browser’s location from the schedule alone.
