Use a browser script to capture each public admissions page, then let a local or hosted scheduler run that script at a sensible interval. The browser handles page rendering and image files; the scheduler handles when the capture runs. Because universities publish information in different places and on different schedules, choose and verify each page individually.
Choose the pages to monitor
Start with the official admissions, notices, and announcements pages you need. Record each exact URL alongside an institution and page name in a small configuration list. Do not assume every relevant notice appears on one landing page: check the institution’s own site for separate notices or announcements pages.

For visual comparisons across runs, keep the browser version and viewport consistent. This is an implementation recommendation, not a guarantee that a university page will render identically every time.
Build a Playwright capture script
Install Playwright for Node.js and its browser before running the script. In a new project directory, run npm init -y, then npm install playwright and npx playwright install chromium. Save the following as capture.mjs. It visits each configured public URL, waits for a page-specific readiness signal, captures a full-page PNG, and includes a UTC timestamp in the filename.

}Replace both example URLs and selectors with the actual public pages and a selector that appears when their useful content is visible. A broad selector such as main may indicate that the page structure loaded, but a more specific notice-list selector is preferable when available. The example uses the same viewport for each page; if you use element capture instead, Playwright’s documented pattern is page.locator('selector').screenshot({ path: 'element.png' }). For a viewport-only capture, omit fullPage: true.
Wait for useful content, not just a fixed delay
The script waits for the initial DOM content and then for a visible selector. That combination is a starting point, not a universal readiness test: choose a selector tied to the notices or content you actually need. If content appears only after a page-specific interaction or client-side update, adapt the script to wait for that visible result before capturing.

Playwright documents navigation states including commit, domcontentloaded, load, and networkidle. Its Page API marks networkidle as “DISCOURAGED” for testing and advises relying on assertions to assess readiness. A page may keep network activity alive, or show its useful content before all network activity ends. Use a fixed delay only as a fallback for a page whose behavior you understand; a delay alone cannot establish that the needed notice loaded. See Playwright’s Page API reference.
Run the capture script on a schedule
On a computer you control
Use your operating system’s scheduler to invoke the script at the times you choose. For example, a Unix-like machine can use cron, with a job such as 0 8 * * * cd /path/to/project && node capture.mjs for a daily run at 08:00 in the machine’s local timezone. Keep the project and screenshot directory in a location the scheduled account can access, and confirm the command works from that directory before scheduling it. A local job will not run while the computer is shut down or unavailable.

With GitHub Actions
A hosted workflow can run while your personal computer is off. GitHub Actions scheduled workflows use POSIX cron expressions and run against the latest commit on the default branch. GitHub Docs says scheduled workflows run in UTC by default; an IANA timezone can also be specified. The documented minimum interval is once every five minutes, not a recommended polling frequency. For example, a daily UTC schedule can be written as 0 8 * * * in a workflow’s on.schedule configuration. To run the Node script, the workflow must check out the repository, set up Node, install the project dependencies and Chromium browser, and run node capture.mjs. Store generated images as workflow artifacts or another private destination suited to your retention needs; do not commit sensitive files or credentials into a public repository. GitHub’s cited documentation establishes scheduling behavior, not a particular artifact-retention policy for this use.

Choose a proportionate cadence
A daily run may suit routine checks; an especially time-sensitive admission period may justify a different cadence. There is no established common update frequency for Indian university admission pages, so do not assume one interval fits all. Check each site’s guidance and avoid unnecessary requests.

Include a stable institution or page name and capture time in each filename, for example university-admissions-2026-10-03T20-00Z.png. The script’s timestamp uses UTC and replaces colons so it is suitable for filenames. Store images where the intended reviewers can access them, and decide how long to retain them. Compare successive captures to spot visual changes, then open the original page to verify an apparent change before treating it as an official update.
Local scheduling or hosted workflow?

Whichever you choose, the amount of page-specific setup depends on the page: URLs, readiness selectors, capture scope, and any exceptions may differ. Neither option guarantees that a third-party site will always be available or that its layout will remain stable.

- Timeout waiting for the selector: Confirm the selector exists on the current page and is visible after navigation. A changed layout or a page that loads content later may require a more specific wait condition.
- The screenshot is blank or misses notices: Check that the script reaches the correct public URL and that the chosen selector represents the content you need. If the relevant content is below the fold, use
fullPage: true; if it is a single region, capture that element. - The script works manually but not on schedule: Use an absolute project path in the scheduler, verify the scheduled account can run Node and access installed dependencies, and inspect the scheduler’s output or workflow logs.
- Images are hard to compare: Keep viewport dimensions, capture scope, and browser version consistent, and use a timestamped filename so captures are not overwritten.
- The page blocks or refuses automated access: Do not attempt to evade the block or access controls. Stop, review the site’s published instructions, and use an allowed way to obtain the information.
