Keeping those jobs distinct makes it easier to control what gets captured, spot missing pages, and retain both the original screenshots and the finished PDF.
Plan the capture before you schedule it
First decide what the report should show and make the capture repeatable. Keep the target pages and capture settings in one configuration so each monthly run uses the same inputs.

- URLs: list every page to include and choose a stable order for the report.
- Capture scope: choose the visible viewport, the full scrollable page, or a specific element. Playwright supports ordinary, full-page, and element screenshots; see its screenshot documentation.
- Browser and viewport: use the same browser environment and viewport dimensions on every run. This helps make month-to-month visual comparisons meaningful.
- Page state: note any required login, navigation, consent handling, or interaction before capture. Make sure the automation reaches the same state each time.
- Readiness condition: for dynamic pages, wait for a meaningful condition, such as a particular selector becoming visible, rather than relying on one fixed delay for every site.
Decide whether the report should preserve only screenshots or also the context needed to interpret them. Captions containing the page URL and capture timestamp can help readers distinguish similar pages and identify when each image was made.

Build a repeatable Playwright capture job
Playwright does the browser work; a scheduler starts the script at the chosen interval. Install the project’s Node dependencies and browser dependencies in the environment that will run the job. For CI setup, worker configuration, and artifact handling, follow the official Playwright CI guidance.

Here is a small runnable starting point. It saves one full-page PNG per URL in a directory named for the reporting month. Replace the example URLs and month before running it. Save as capture.mjs:

}This example waits for the document to load and the body to appear, but that is not a guarantee that every site’s meaningful content has finished rendering. Change the wait condition to match each site—for example, wait for a known content selector. Do not assume that a generic network-idle condition or a fixed delay is right for all pages.

Install the project dependencies and browser before running the script. The exact package versions should be pinned in the project lockfile for an archive workflow; use Playwright’s current installation instructions for the matching runtime and browser setup. For larger jobs, handle each URL independently so one failure can be logged and reported without silently losing the rest of the month’s captures.
Schedule the job to run monthly
A CI workflow or a server scheduler can trigger the capture script. GitHub Actions is one option; schedule syntax and timezone behavior are defined in the current workflow syntax reference. Check that reference when configuring the workflow, since schedule interpretation and available syntax matter to the intended run time.

- Choose the reporting schedule and timezone. Decide whether “monthly” means a particular calendar day and time, and account for the scheduler’s timezone behavior.
- Prepare the runner. Check out the project, install the pinned Node dependencies, and install the Playwright browser dependencies required by the chosen browser.
- Run the capture script. Pass the reporting month as an environment value if you need a fixed month label, rather than relying on the runner’s current date.
- Keep the output. Upload screenshots and logs as CI artifacts or copy them to storage with retention appropriate for the report’s intended lifetime. Playwright’s CI documentation includes an artifact-upload example.
- Make failures visible. Preserve a run summary showing which URLs succeeded or failed, and fail or flag the job when the expected set is incomplete.
Playwright recommends using one worker in CI when stability and reproducibility are the priority. Parallel workers may shorten a large capture job, but can add load to target sites and make timing or layout less consistent. Start with reproducibility, then increase concurrency only if the workload calls for it and the pages tolerate it.
Assemble the month’s screenshots into a PDF
A folder of screenshots is an archive, not automatically a finished monthly report. Create the PDF as an explicit step after capture. Sort files by the same stable order every run, place one image or a deliberate group of images on each report page, and add the reporting month, page URL, and capture timestamp as captions or metadata.

Playwright’s command reference documents PDF export and a custom filename, but a polished multi-page monthly report still requires a layout and assembly step. See Playwright’s CLI reference. For a report assembled from separate page screenshots, use a PDF library or document-generation step that lays out those images and captions consistently. Check image scaling: full-page screenshots can have very different aspect ratios, so fitting each entire image onto a page may make some text hard to read.

website-report-2026-10.pdfso the reporting month is obvious. - Include a cover or contents page only if it improves navigation; do not let it replace URL and timestamp labels on the captures.
- Keep the original image files alongside the PDF so a reader can inspect a page at its original resolution.
- Choose whether the report is for visual comparison or convenient reading. A consistent viewport is useful for comparison; full-page images capture more content but can become small when fitted to a PDF page.
Validate and retain each report
Before sharing or archiving the PDF, check the run against the intended URL list and inspect the rendered document—not just whether a file exists.

- Confirm every expected URL has a screenshot, and that filenames and report order match the plan.
- Check that each capture shows the intended page state and that important content is not obscured by a loading screen or overlay.
- Open the PDF and verify its reporting month, captions, page order, legibility, and expected page count.
- Review job logs for navigation errors, timeouts, missing selectors, and incomplete output; do not publish a partial report as though it were complete.
- Set a retention period for screenshots, PDFs, and logs, and restrict access if the captured pages contain private or sensitive information.
