To schedule songs for a 24/7 YouTube radio stream, you need two separate systems: a playlist or radio-automation workflow to decide what plays and when, and an encoder or cloud playout service to send that continuous program to YouTube. Scheduling a YouTube live event alone does not schedule or transmit songs.
1. Clear the music and visuals for your intended use
Before building the playlist, confirm that you have the rights needed to livestream each song and visual on YouTube in the territories where your stream will be available. YouTube’s livestream terms make the creator responsible for having the necessary rights, including music rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants: Livestream terms and conditions.
Buying a track, downloading it, or crediting its creator does not by itself grant permission to stream it. Rights depend on the repertoire, territory, and intended uses, including live transmission and any archive. There is no universal license established here that covers every creator and jurisdiction.
2. Build the song schedule
Use a radio-automation or playout workflow to assemble the program. You can plan a fixed sequence, rotate tracks, schedule recurring blocks, and add transitions, breaks, or spoken segments. Those are programming choices; YouTube Studio does not create the song schedule for you.

- Prepare the audio and visuals. Use files you are authorized to transmit, and choose visuals you are also authorized to use.
- Arrange the playlist. Set the order and recurrence you want. Decide where transitions, announcements, or breaks belong.
- Check continuity. Make sure the playout workflow has material ready for the full period you intend to broadcast, rather than relying on a person to start every track.
- Test the program output. Confirm that the audio and any accompanying video reach the encoder or cloud playout system before scheduling a public broadcast.
3. Choose how to connect the program to YouTube
YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a stream URL and stream key to connect an encoder to a live destination. The encoder must send the program; creating an event in Studio does not start the music. YouTube does not specify a minimum computer model or hardware configuration in its encoder guide, so choose a local host based on the encoder you select, its output settings, and how you plan to keep it operating and monitored.

YouTube’s Live Streaming API treats broadcast events and stream settings as distinct resources. It documents both shared stream settings for scheduled events and a continuous channel feed that can coexist with a separate broadcast: Understanding Broadcasts and Streams.

4. Schedule and start the YouTube broadcast
For a scheduled live event, use YouTube Studio and the encoder workflow in YouTube’s current help guide. The key operational point is that the encoder must be sending the program before you start the scheduled event.
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream in Live Control Room. Set the event details and intended start time.
- Open the stream settings for that destination and copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key.
- In your encoder, enter the stream URL and key, then select the program output you prepared in your playout workflow.
- Start the encoder so it sends a signal to YouTube.
- Check the Live Control Room preview to confirm YouTube is receiving the expected audio and video.
- For a scheduled stream, click Go live when the preview is ready and it is time to begin. Follow YouTube’s encoder instructions at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
If you need a continuous feed as well as separate events, treat those as distinct broadcast arrangements. Decide in advance which destination viewers should use and how your encoder and stream settings will serve each one; an event schedule is not a substitute for the continuous program feed.

5. Keep copyright matching separate from permission
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted material appearing in another live broadcast. If it detects a match, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder image and warn you. If the material remains, the stream may be temporarily interrupted or terminated. Details are in Copyright issues with live streams.
A license and a clean Content ID match are separate operational checks. YouTube advises creators who have licensed content to ask the rights owner to add their channel to the Content ID allowlist. A licensed stream can still be interrupted if the channel has not been allowlisted.

- Confirm the rights for the music and visuals you plan to transmit.
- Coordinate with rights owners about Content ID allowlisting when applicable.
- Monitor Live Control Room for warnings, and act promptly if YouTube flags third-party content.
6. Plan for archives and monetization realistically
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish that one uninterrupted 24/7 stream will produce a complete, replayable daily archive. If you need separate recordings or replayable program blocks, verify current Studio behavior and make an operational plan for how you will create and retain them.
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. Its policy page notes that, on July 15, 2025, it clarified the wording by renaming “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content.” The page says repetitive or mass-produced content may be ineligible, and reused-content policy is separate from copyright enforcement: permission alone does not establish monetization eligibility. A looped playlist is not guaranteed to qualify for the YouTube Partner Program or to earn revenue. See YouTube channel monetization policies.

Can YouTube Studio schedule the songs in my radio stream?
No. Studio schedules the live event; a playlist or playout workflow schedules the music, and an encoder or cloud service sends it to YouTube.
Does having permission guarantee that YouTube will not interrupt a licensed song?
No. YouTube’s live Content ID scanning is separate from rights clearance. For licensed material, ask the rights owner about adding your channel to its allowlist.
