If a YouTube Live playlist plays video but has no sound, first unmute the player, raise its volume, and check your device’s sound output. Then compare another YouTube video and try the stream on another device or network. A silent player alone does not show that the stream is blocked in India; a regional restriction usually appears as an explicit unavailable message.
Fix the sound in this order
- Check the YouTube player. Make sure it is not muted and raise the player volume. YouTube’s no-sound guidance also recommends checking sound and volume settings for the browser or device.
- Check where your device sends audio. Raise the system volume and confirm that the selected output is the speaker or headphones you intend to use. Check the device’s sound settings, not just the YouTube player.
- Restart playback. Close and reopen the browser or YouTube app, then reload the stream. If that does not help, restart the device. These are among YouTube’s recommended first checks for no-sound symptoms.
- Compare another video. Play a different YouTube video on the same device. If that is silent too, focus on device output, app/browser state, or system settings. If other videos have sound, continue to isolate this particular broadcast.
- Try another supported device or playback route. Open the stream in the YouTube app or site on another device, if available. If only this broadcast is silent across devices, the issue may be with the broadcast’s audio source rather than your local settings. YouTube’s computer troubleshooting guidance includes testing playback on another device.
When to check the app, browser, or connection
If video also buffers, fails to load, or behaves incorrectly, try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data. On Android, clear the YouTube app cache; update or reopen the app or browser, and restart the device. YouTube lists these as broader playback checks in its video troubleshooting guidance. They are more relevant when playback itself is malfunctioning than when only the sound is missing.
Is the stream unavailable in India?
Distinguish a silent video from a video that will not play. If YouTube explicitly says a video is unavailable in your country or region, its country and region help page says the owner may have limited availability, often for licensing reasons, or YouTube may block content to comply with local law. Audio settings cannot remove a territory restriction; ask the channel owner about availability.
If the video loads and plays but is silent, that is a different symptom. Without the specific video or playlist URL and any error message, it is not possible to verify that stream’s audio or regional availability. The YouTube Data API describes owner-set regional allow and block lists, but those fields do not establish the status of an unidentified stream: see Google’s YouTube Data API video documentation.

If you run the live stream, check its audio at the source
If multiple viewers report silence, inspect the audio before it reaches YouTube. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance covers encoder, source-audio, and outbound-connection checks. YouTube’s live-stream error guidance identifies no audio stream, multiple audio streams, and more than two audio channels as configuration errors; it supports mono or stereo.
- Listen to the encoder’s output directly and confirm that the intended audio source is routed into the stream.
- Check the encoder for audio or connection errors, then verify outbound connectivity.
- Confirm the outgoing stream has an audio track and that the audio configuration uses one supported mono or stereo stream rather than multiple tracks or more than two channels.
- Monitor both audio and video quality while streaming, as recommended in YouTube’s streaming tips.
What to include when you report the problem
If these checks do not resolve it, send feedback through the YouTube app or contact the channel owner. Include the video or playlist URL, device and operating system, app or browser version, whether other YouTube videos have sound, whether another device or network changes the result, and the exact error message, if any. Those details help distinguish a local playback fault, a stream-specific audio problem, and a regional availability restriction.
