YouTube Studio lets you schedule a live stream and reuse a previous stream’s settings, but its documented workflow does not provide a native rule that automatically creates recurring events. Plan to schedule each occurrence separately. For captions, choose an eligible stream’s automatic English captions, embedded 608/708 captions, or supported caption software using YouTube’s captions URL.
Can YouTube automatically schedule a recurring live stream?
YouTube Help documents scheduling an event and reusing settings from an earlier stream; it does not document a native recurrence rule that schedules future occurrences automatically. Unless you have verified another current workflow for your account, treat each broadcast as a separate scheduled event. Reusing settings can save setup time, but you still need to review and schedule each date.

A scheduled event gives you a watch-page URL to share in advance. YouTube says viewers can receive reminders or select “Notify me,” so creating each event ahead of time can help viewers find the series.

- Open Live Control Room: In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live.
- Start a scheduled event: Select Manage, then Schedule stream.
- Create or reuse settings: Choose Create new or Reuse settings for a previous stream. Reuse may copy metadata, settings, and the stream key. Before scheduling, check the title, description, privacy, date, time, caption source, and encoder configuration for this occurrence.
- Share the event page: Once scheduled, copy the watch-page URL and share it with viewers who should be able to set a reminder.
- Connect and start the encoder: Use the stream URL and stream key in your encoder. At broadcast time, start the encoder and check that its preview reaches Live Control Room. Select Go live when the preview and stream are ready.

Choose a caption method
Set up captions for each stream and confirm that the selected source is available to your production. YouTube documents three routes: automatic captions for some eligible English streams, captions embedded in the encoder signal, and supported caption software connected through a signed HTTP ingestion URL.

Automatic captions for eligible English streams
In the stream’s settings, open Stream settings, enable Closed captions, and select Automatic captions. YouTube’s Help page describes this as English-only and currently rolling out to channels streaming at normal latency when professional captions are unavailable. Check the current stream UI and account eligibility: availability may change, and the live captions are not retained as such on the archive. Embedded 608/708 captions from an encoder
In the stream’s setup settings, enable Closed captions and choose Embedded 608/708. Configure the encoder and caption source to send EIA 608/CEA 708 captions. This option is appropriate only if your equipment and production can generate the compatible embedded data. YouTube’s workflow currently supports one caption track.
Supported caption software over HTTP
Enable captions in stream setup, copy the signed captions ingestion URL, and provide it to the captioner or compatible software. YouTube lists Total Eclipse/AccuCap, Case CATalyst BCS, CaptionMaker, and StreamText.Net; verify current version and compatibility details on YouTube Help: Live caption requirements before choosing a workflow. The feed is tied to the stream entry point, which supports one caption feed. Follow YouTube’s guidance on keeping the system clock accurate and using a 30- or 60-second broadcast delay for the event workflow.

Prepare a recurring series without carrying mistakes forward
Reusing a past stream can speed up setup, but it can also carry forward settings that no longer suit the next event. Review the event and production details for every occurrence.
- Confirm the date, time, title, description, visibility, and shareable watch page.
- Check reused settings, including the stream key, auto-start and auto-stop choices, caption source, and encoder configuration.
- Test representative speech, audio, and movement. Confirm captions actually appear in the stream preview rather than assuming that an enabled setting means a working caption feed.
- For encoder events, YouTube recommends setting up at least two hours before the event and starting encoders at least 15 minutes beforehand. Check the preview and stream health before selecting Go live. See YouTube Help: Streaming tips.
Troubleshoot scheduling and captions
The next event has not been scheduled automatically
That is expected in the documented workflow: scheduling and reuse do not establish an automatic recurrence rule. Create a separate event for each occurrence, then verify its date, time, and watch page.

The scheduled event is not receiving the encoder preview
Check that the encoder is using the stream URL and key for the intended event, then confirm the encoder is sending and that Live Control Room receives its preview. If you reused settings, verify the copied stream key and encoder configuration rather than assuming they match the current event.
Automatic captions are unavailable
Automatic live captions are not documented as available for every channel or language. YouTube describes the feature as English-only, for normal-latency streams, and rolling out when professional captions are unavailable. Check the current UI and eligibility. If this route is not available or is insufficient for your event, configure compatible embedded captions or supported caption software instead.

Embedded captions do not appear
Confirm that the stream has Closed captions enabled with Embedded 608/708 selected, and that the encoder and caption source are sending compatible EIA 608/CEA 708 data. Check the incoming preview before the event begins.
The caption software feed is missing or unreliable
Verify that the captioner or software has the signed URL for the correct stream entry point and that no second feed is being expected on that entry point. Check system-clock accuracy and the documented 30- or 60-second broadcast-delay workflow. Consult YouTube’s current live caption requirements for supported software and version details.
