What’s actually slowing this PC down?

YouTube does not document a feature that automatically switches a live playlist according to each viewer’s time zone. To show different live content at different audience times, schedule separate live broadcast events for those time slots and manage the related playlist entries separately. That gives each event its own start time and watch page; it does not make YouTube choose a playlist based on where a viewer is watching from.
What YouTube can—and cannot—schedule
YouTube’s live scheduling and playlist tools do separate jobs. You can schedule a live broadcast for a future date and time, and you can organize videos in playlists. The reviewed official documentation does not describe a rule that changes playlist membership or live content automatically based on an individual viewer’s time zone. YouTube’s live-stream guidance covers scheduling; the PlaylistItems API covers adding items to playlists.

For a channel that wants different programming at different audience times, the practical workaround is to create separate scheduled events for the chosen time slots, then organize the relevant content and event links separately. This is a workflow built from YouTube’s documented tools, not a native per-viewer time-zone playlist feature.
Know the difference between a broadcast and a stream
YouTube models a broadcast as a distinct event/video and a stream as the transmission resource. A broadcast is bound to one stream; a stream can be bound to up to three broadcasts, and stream resources may be reused for broadcasts at different times. This distinction matters when setting up multiple event pages: each scheduled broadcast is a separate event, even when you reuse a stream resource. See Understanding Broadcasts and Streams.

Do not confuse scheduled videos with live events
YouTube Help documents a time-zone selector for scheduling a video’s publication. Live broadcast scheduling instead uses a scheduled start datetime; the video-publishing control should not be treated as a way to schedule live playlist switching. YouTube also notes that a scheduled video’s watch-page publication date is based on Pacific Standard Time and may differ from the date shown in Studio. See Schedule video publish time.
Plan the audience time slots first
- Choose each audience and its local start time. Decide which viewers each event is intended for and what content they should see. Avoid assuming that YouTube will identify those viewers by location and serve a different playlist automatically.
- Convert each start time into a specific date and time. Record the time zone and the corresponding date for every event. Daylight-saving changes can alter a region’s UTC offset, so verify every occurrence rather than applying one fixed offset throughout the year.
- Choose distinct event pages when audiences need distinct start times. Separate scheduled broadcasts make it possible to share a particular watch page with the intended audience. If one event is sufficient for everyone, a single event is simpler; it will not provide viewer-specific playlist switching.
- Prepare playlist organization separately. Decide which videos or event items belong in each playlist. Playlist membership is a separate management task, not a scheduling condition attached to a live event.
Set up the events in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live area. Start the live scheduling flow for the first planned event, and enter its intended title, date, start time, and privacy status.
- Create a separate scheduled broadcast for each required time slot. Check the date and time carefully against the audience’s intended local time, including the correct date after conversion. Studio’s Live tab groups streams as Live Now, Upcoming, and Live Replay; verify each scheduled event appears under Upcoming.
- Organize playlist entries independently. Add the relevant video or event item to the intended playlist through Studio. Then inspect the playlist display to confirm the intended items are present; do not assume scheduling an event changes playlist membership.
- Share each event’s watch page with its intended audience. YouTube says a scheduled live stream may appear as upcoming in subscribers’ feeds, where viewers can choose “Notify me.” Share the direct event page as well, and do not promise that YouTube will distribute it to every subscriber.
- Check the schedule again near the event. Confirm the upcoming event, its start time, and the playlist organization before promoting or going live. This is especially important around daylight-saving transitions.
YouTube’s Studio guidance for scheduling is at Create a live stream via webcam; upcoming-event notification behavior is described in Manage live stream settings.

Automate event creation with the YouTube Live API
If you have an authorized integration and implementation support, the API exposes broadcast creation and playlist insertion as separate operations. This avoids manually creating many event records, but it does not add an automatic time-zone-to-playlist rule.
Recommended Free Tools
- Create one broadcast resource per scheduled event. Use
liveBroadcasts.insertto set the event title, scheduled start datetime, and privacy status. Supply a valid future datetime for each broadcast. Convert local audience times to explicit dates and times before creating the resources, and account for daylight-saving changes. - Bind the broadcast to a stream resource. Follow YouTube’s broadcast/stream model and confirm the intended association for each event. A stream can be associated with up to three broadcasts, and broadcasters may reuse a stream for broadcasts at different times; this does not mean one broadcast automatically picks a playlist.
- Insert playlist items in a separate authorized request. Use
playlistItems.insertto add the intended item to its playlist. Treat this as separate playlist administration and verify the resulting playlist rather than assuming the broadcast-creation request changed it. - Publish and test the event links. Check the broadcast records and playlist display, then share the appropriate watch page with each audience. API automation should preserve a clear mapping between each event, its intended audience time, and its playlist organization.
The API route is most useful when you have many events or need repeatable creation. It requires authorized channel access and implementation work; the Studio route is more direct for a small number of scheduled events.

Choose the simplest workflow that matches the goal
| Approach | What it does | Best fit | Important limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| One scheduled event | Creates one event page at one chosen start time. | One audience time slot or a single shared event. | Does not serve a different playlist to viewers by time zone. |
| Separate Studio events | Creates distinct scheduled broadcasts and event pages. | A manageable number of audience time slots. | Playlist management remains a separate action. |
| API-created events and playlist items | Creates broadcast resources and playlist entries through separate authorized operations. | Repeatable setup or a larger event schedule with development support. | API automation does not establish an automatic viewer-time-zone switching feature. |
Use Live Redirect only for an event handoff
YouTube Live Redirect can send an audience to a Premiere or another live stream after the current stream ends. It may help connect consecutive events, but it does not set playlist membership or choose content by viewer time zone. YouTube’s current guidance says the creator sending a redirect needs more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes; redirecting to another channel’s stream also requires that channel’s permission. Check the current requirements in How to use YouTube Live Redirect.
Common problems and fixes
- The wrong audience sees the event time: Recheck the date, local time, time-zone label, and daylight-saving offset. Share the event page with a clearly stated local start time rather than relying on an assumed fixed offset.
- The playlist did not change when the event was scheduled: That is expected: scheduling a broadcast and adding playlist items are separate tasks. Add the relevant item separately and inspect the playlist.
- The event is not listed as upcoming in Studio: Return to the Live tab and check the Live Now, Upcoming, and Live Replay sections. Confirm that the intended broadcast was scheduled with a future datetime and the correct privacy status.
- Viewers expect a notification but do not receive one: YouTube allows viewers to choose “Notify me” on an upcoming stream; do not treat feed appearance or notification delivery as guaranteed. Share the watch-page link directly.
- A redirect is unavailable: Confirm the sending channel meets YouTube’s eligibility requirements and, when redirecting to another channel, that the recipient has granted permission. Redirect is an end-of-stream handoff, not a playlist scheduler.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a continuous YouTube loop rather than separate audience-specific scheduled events, StreamNeo is a different option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It does not provide automatic per-viewer time-zone playlist switching or go live from a camera.
