Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →You can schedule a YouTube study stream by setting up its broadcast in YouTube Studio, then using Windows Task Scheduler to open OBS at the time you choose. In OBS, the --startstreaming launch parameter tells it to start sending the feed when it opens. These are two separate schedules—not a one-click YouTube feature—and they do not guarantee that a stream will stay live continuously. The PC, OBS, power, internet connection and YouTube’s acceptance of the feed all remain dependencies.
What the two schedules do
YouTube Studio creates the broadcast and its viewer-facing watch page. Windows Task Scheduler launches the OBS process on your PC. OBS then connects to YouTube using the event’s stream settings and, when launched with --startstreaming, starts streaming automatically.

- YouTube Studio: creates or schedules the broadcast, which you can share so viewers can visit the watch page and set reminders.
- Windows Task Scheduler: starts OBS at a trigger you configure. It does not create the YouTube event or make the PC, network, or encoder fault-tolerant.
OBS’s launch documentation explains the launch parameter and the working-directory requirement for scheduled or automated launches: OBS Launch Parameters. YouTube’s event workflow is described in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Before scheduling the stream
Confirm the channel can go live
Enable live streaming and check that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restriction. YouTube says first-time live-streaming enablement may take up to 24 hours; once enabled, streams can go live instantly. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.

Choose the right kind of broadcast
Decide whether you need one continuous event or a series of separate study sessions. A scheduled broadcast gives viewers an event page to visit in advance. A single continuous 24-hour stream has a replay consideration: YouTube says encoder streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not establish that one uninterrupted stream longer than that will produce a complete automatic replay.
Check content rights and channel policies
Use music, visuals, and other material you have permission to stream. A study stream that loops background music or other recordings still needs a rights check; scheduling and automation do not grant permission to rebroadcast content. For a practical preflight, use the copyright safety checklist.

Create the YouTube event and prepare OBS
- Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room, choose Manage, then schedule or create the stream. Copy the watch-page URL if you want to share the event or promote it before it starts. YouTube’s current workflow is documented in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Connect OBS to the event. In Live Control Room, get the stream URL and stream key. Enter them in OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the key as sensitive access information: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your event. If it is compromised, reset it in Live Control Room and update OBS. See Manage live stream settings.
- Build and save the study scene. Add the video, image, or other intended study sources, and check the audio source and levels. Set the OBS profile and output settings you intend to use. Do not assume the launch parameter selects a particular scene or profile; configure those in OBS or use launch options that OBS supports for that purpose.
- Pick output your connection can sustain. YouTube recommends testing the connection and using a bitrate it can reliably maintain. Its current encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, CBR, and a 2-second keyframe interval that should not exceed 4 seconds. Bitrate depends on codec, resolution, and frame rate; these examples apply specifically to H.264 at 30 fps:
| Output | YouTube-recommended bitrate range |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps, H.264 | 3 Mbps minimum; 8 Mbps recommended |
| 1080p at 30 fps, H.264 | 5 Mbps minimum; 14 Mbps recommended |
These are YouTube’s published recommendations, not independent measurements or a guarantee that a particular connection will be stable. For other output modes and codecs, consult Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions rather than applying these rows indiscriminately.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTest the whole broadcast before automating it
Start OBS normally first. Confirm it opens with the intended scene and profile, then check the event preview in Live Control Room. If appropriate, test with an unlisted or private event. Check the viewer-facing page as well as the encoder preview: confirm the picture and audio are present, the page is accessible as intended, and YouTube Studio reports healthy stream status.

- Confirm the event selected in Studio is the one OBS is sending to.
- Watch the stream long enough to see whether the PC and connection remain stable under the chosen settings.
YouTube recommends preparing the encoder well before an event, starting it at least 15 minutes before the event, previewing the stream, and monitoring quality. Its tips specify setting up the encoder at least 2 hours ahead. See YouTube live streaming tips.
Set up Windows Task Scheduler to launch OBS
- Find the installed OBS executable. Locate
obs64.exein the OBS installation folder on your PC. The path varies by installation; do not copy a path from another computer without checking it. - Open Task Scheduler and create a task. Choose a trigger that matches your intended start—for example, a clock time or a Windows sign-in. The appropriate trigger depends on whether the PC will already be running and which Windows session will be active. The available sources do not establish one universal set of trigger or recovery settings for every Windows configuration.
- Add an action to start OBS. Set the action’s program to the actual path of
obs64.exe. In the arguments field, enter--startstreaming. - Set the working directory. In the action’s Start in field, enter the folder containing
obs64.exe, not the executable filename. OBS specifically documents this working-directory requirement for scheduled launches. - Choose session conditions deliberately. Decide whether the PC is expected to be logged in or whether the task should launch at sign-in. Do not assume a task configured for one Windows session will behave the same way after a reboot, sign-out, sleep, or account change. Confirm that the machine is powered on and available at the trigger time.
- Run a controlled test. Use Task Scheduler’s run command to launch the task while you can observe the PC and Live Control Room. Confirm OBS opens, the expected scene appears, streaming starts, and the correct event receives the feed. Do not leave the task unattended until this complete path has worked on the actual machine.
The OBS documentation supports the launch parameter and working-directory instruction, but it does not provide an authoritative, current recipe for every Task Scheduler trigger, login mode, retry, runtime limit, or failure-recovery option. Configure those around your Windows setup and test them; a scheduled process launch is not proof of recovery after a crash or outage.

Plan for continuity and replays
A 24/7 broadcast depends on more than the launch time: Windows must keep running, OBS must remain connected, the PC must stay powered, the internet connection must hold, and YouTube must continue accepting the feed. A Task Scheduler task starts a process; it does not itself restore a stream after every failure. Test what happens after a network interruption, OBS closure, PC sleep, and reboot before relying on the arrangement.

Because YouTube’s stated automatic archiving applies to encoder streams under 12 hours, do not plan on a single complete automatic replay for one continuous 24/7 broadcast. If retaining recordings matters, decide whether to use shorter separate events or keep local recordings, and verify the recording workflow and available storage before going live.

Troubleshoot common failures
- OBS opens but does not stream: Confirm the action includes
--startstreaming, then verify the stream URL and key in OBS and check the event preview in Live Control Room. - The task runs but OBS fails to find resources or behaves differently: Check that Start in points to the folder containing
obs64.exe. Confirm the executable path is correct for this installation. - The wrong scene or profile appears: Select and save the intended scene and profile in OBS, then test the scheduled launch again. Do not assume
--startstreamingchooses them. - The broadcast starts at the wrong time or not at all: Review the task trigger and the PC’s actual power and sign-in state at that time. Run the task manually and verify its behavior in the intended Windows session.
- The preview is black or silent: Check the OBS scene sources, media playback, audio device selection, and levels. Verify both in OBS and from the viewer-facing page.
- The connection drops or stream health degrades: Test at a lower output bitrate or resolution your connection can sustain, then monitor YouTube’s stream-health status. Do not treat a bitrate recommendation as a guarantee of available upload capacity.
- The feed goes to the wrong event or stops after a key change: Confirm OBS uses the intended event’s current stream URL and key. If a key may have been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and replace it in OBS.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: Check the event duration and your local recording plan. YouTube’s cited automatic-archive guidance covers streams shorter than 12 hours, not a continuous 24-hour event.
