To keep a pre-recorded playlist live on YouTube in Castr, create a Pre-Recorded Stream, add and order your MP4 videos, choose Loop, connect YouTube as a destination, and start the stream. If you need programs to begin at specific times across a dated lineup, use Castr’s separate TV Playout feature instead.
Choose the right Castr workflow
| Need | Pre-Recorded Stream Loop | TV Playout |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Repeat a playlist continuously as a live broadcast | Run a channel using a dated timetable |
| Content | Uploaded videos or recorded videos in the Castr library | VOD, Live-to-VOD, and livestream items |
| Timing | Loop begins when enabled; a scheduled start is a separate mode | Timed items, breaks, and schedule activation |
| Limits to check | File count, file size and duration, and plan support for looping | Loop period, files per playout, breaks, and plan limits |
For the same playlist repeating around the clock, use Pre-Recorded Stream Loop. Choose TV Playout when the order must follow a schedule—for example, one program at 9 a.m. and another at 1 p.m.

Set up a continuous pre-recorded loop
- Open Pre-Recorded Streams. In the Castr Dashboard, go to Pre-Recorded Streams and create a new stream.
- Add your videos. Upload files or select recorded videos already in your Castr library. Castr’s current guide says this workflow supports MP4 files.
- Arrange the playlist. Reorder items and disable any entries you do not want included. Castr says the displayed total duration updates as the playlist changes.
- Select Loop. Choose Loop as the scheduling mode to repeat the playlist. Castr’s scheduling guide says its Infinite Loop mode starts as soon as it is enabled. A scheduled start time is a different mode.
- Connect YouTube. Add YouTube as a destination, authenticate or select a saved platform, and make sure its destination toggle is on.
- Start and verify. Start the stream and check that the destination is receiving it. Castr’s YouTube-specific instructions use YouTube Events: connect the account, then select a new event or an existing one. Follow the current dashboard labels if they differ from the guide.
Castr’s setup guidance for this workflow is dated July 8, 2026. Its YouTube-specific instructional article was originally published December 21, 2024 and updated March 24, 2026. See Castr’s YouTube guide for live streaming pre-recorded video for its event-oriented path.
Schedule a dated lineup with TV Playout
TV Playout is for a timetable rather than a single repeating sequence. Castr’s setup guide calls for creating a Livestream destination, selecting Schedule or Loop, setting the broadcast date and time, and adding the items to play. A Schedule plays items consecutively; Loop repeats a playlist and requires an end date.
#1 Best Overall
- HD streaming made simple: With America’s number 1 TV streaming platform,* exploring popular apps—plus tons of free movies, shows, and live TV—is as easy as it is fun. *Based on hours streamed—Hypothesis Group
- Compact without compromises: The sleek design of Roku Streaming Stick won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
- Create the destination. Set up a Livestream destination that can deliver to YouTube.
- Choose the timing mode. Select Schedule for a dated lineup or Loop for a repeating playout. Set the date and time as required.
- Build the timetable. Add VOD files, Live-to-VOD items, livestreams, and, if needed, breaks. Items in a Schedule play consecutively.
- Fill gaps with breaks. If a program must begin at a particular time, use a break to cover the gap until that start. Castr’s 24/7 scheduling guide gives an example of ending a break one second before the next program’s target start. The setup guide specifies a minimum break duration of two minutes, so check that the required gap can be represented.
- Review and activate. Check the displayed schedule and time zone, then click Set Schedule. The channel needs a start date, a destination, and at least one timetable item. After editing an active schedule, apply the changes with Set Schedule.
Castr says the item currently on air cannot be moved or replaced while live. Its guides also say loop length depends on the plan. Review the Castr TV Playout information before building a long-running schedule.
Check file, plan, and timing limits
- Pre-Recorded Stream files: Castr’s current guide says MP4 is supported. File size and the number of files allowed vary by subscription.
- Pre-Recorded Stream loop access and capacity: Castr’s product page lists infinite looping on Premium and higher, with two files per stream on Starter and Standard, ten on Premium, and fifteen on Ultra. These are Castr-published plan limits displayed on October 3, 2026; confirm the live terms before choosing a plan because they can change.
- TV Playout limits are separate: Castr lists Premium loops up to 15 days ahead and Ultra and Events up to 30 days; longer runs are directed to sales. Do not apply these TV Playout limits to Pre-Recorded Streams. Check the current Castr plans and pricing and the relevant feature page before committing.
- Time zone: Castr says the scheduler uses the device’s time zone. Verify the zone and displayed start time on the device you use to configure the schedule.
- YouTube account readiness: Connecting a destination in Castr does not establish that every YouTube account is eligible or unrestricted. Check your channel’s status and event readiness in YouTube Studio.
Troubleshoot common setup issues
- The playlist does not repeat: Confirm the stream is set to Loop rather than a scheduled-start mode, and check whether the selected plan supports looping for this feature.
- A file cannot be added: Confirm it is an MP4 for Pre-Recorded Streams, then check the subscription’s file-size and file-count limits.
- The stream is not reaching YouTube: Check that YouTube is connected as a destination, its toggle is on, and the intended event was selected. Verify the channel’s status in YouTube Studio; Castr’s connection workflow cannot confirm account-specific eligibility.
- A program misses its intended start: For TV Playout, check the device time zone, break duration, and displayed schedule. Apply edits using Set Schedule.
- You cannot edit the current item: Castr says the item currently on air cannot be moved or replaced while live. Make the change to a later item or adjust the lineup after it is no longer on air.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want an always-on YouTube stream of uploaded videos without keeping a computer running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload your recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos; it does not broadcast from a camera.
