Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11It depends on what you mean by “scan a photo.” A picture already stored in Gallery does not need scanning. For a printed photograph, you need to digitize the physical print with a camera or a scanner; Samsung’s documented Galaxy scan feature is for documents, not a dedicated printed-photo mode. If you want to scan a document with your Galaxy, use the Camera scan control when it is available on your device.
Scan a document with your Galaxy camera
Samsung’s supported-device workflow starts in Camera: point the viewfinder at the document and tap the scan control when it appears. Review the result, adjust it if needed, and save. Samsung says the saved scan is accessible in Gallery; you can also open it in Samsung Notes for editing and export it as a PDF. The exact control and behavior can vary by model and software, so Samsung’s scan and edit instructions are the best next step if your screen differs.

- Open Camera and frame the document in the viewfinder.
- Use the detected scan control if it appears. On devices with Auto Scan, document detection can open an editing screen.
- Review and adjust the scan, then save it.
- Find the saved document in Gallery. To edit it or create a PDF, open the scan in Samsung Notes and use its export option.
What Auto Scan changes
Samsung described Auto Scan in its One UI 6 announcement as detecting a document in the camera view and opening an edit screen for rotation, alignment, and saving. Samsung also says the document feature can recognize and remove fingers in the frame; it mentions Enhance-X for removing bulldog clips. These are document-processing features, not promises of cleanup for a photograph of a family print.
If the scan control is missing
Do not assume every Galaxy has the same toggle or menu path. Samsung’s update notes for the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Tab S9 describe model-specific changes, including separating document scanning from Scene Optimizer and adding Auto Scan. An older Galaxy S10 support article gives a historical, model-specific route through Camera settings; it should not be treated as universal current instructions. Check your exact model’s current Samsung instructions and software version.

Digitize a printed photo with a Samsung phone
A physical print is different from a document. The Samsung sources cited here do not establish a dedicated Galaxy Camera or Gallery mode for scanning printed photographs. You can photograph the print with the phone camera, but that is ordinary photo capture rather than Samsung’s document-scan workflow. The available sources do not verify a Samsung-specific recipe or guarantee particular glare handling, color fidelity, resolution, or automatic correction for printed photos.
As general photography tips—not Samsung scan features—use even lighting, keep the camera parallel to the print, and reposition lights or the print to avoid reflections. Review the captured image for glare, blur, and cropping before treating it as an archive copy. These suggestions are practical capture basics, not a tested comparison with a flatbed scanner.

Phone camera or flatbed scanner?
For a few prints, a phone is a convenient way to make image files without setting up a separate device. For a larger collection or a repeatable workflow, a flatbed photo scanner is an optional hardware category to consider. The right choice depends on your volume and the controls you need; the evidence cited here does not establish which method produces better photo quality.

| Galaxy camera capture | You want to capture a small number of physical prints with a phone. | Samsung documents a Camera scan workflow for documents, not a dedicated printed-photo workflow. The cited Samsung support page says document scans can be accessed in Gallery and edited or exported as PDFs in Notes. |
| Flatbed scanner | You are digitizing many prints or want a dedicated scanning workflow. | Samsung’s service guidance distinguishes flatbed glass from an automatic document feeder. For the Samsung printer models covered in that 2020 guidance, it lists up to 1,200 dpi on the flatbed and up to 300 dpi through the feeder; those settings are model-specific and do not establish photo quality for all scanners. |
Samsung’s scanner guidance explains the flatbed-versus-feeder distinction for specified Samsung printer families. The resolution figures apply only to those models and settings; they are not a general recommendation, a product comparison, or evidence that a particular scanner is best for a photo archive.

Where a Samsung scan goes, and whether it can be a PDF
For Samsung’s documented document workflow, the saved scan is available in Gallery. Samsung also says you can edit the document in Samsung Notes and export it as a PDF. That describes the document-scan path; it does not establish identical saving or PDF behavior for a phone photo of a printed picture.
