Choose a PDF or a portal download
A browser-made PDF records a rendering of a page. It is useful for preserving what appeared on screen or attaching a visual explanation to a support request, but print styling and settings can make the result differ from the screen. The shot-scraper PDF documentation describes page-to-PDF output as equivalent to Chromium’s Print > Save to PDF and exposes a screen-media option, illustrating that rendering choices can affect the result. It does not document VisualScraper.

A portal-native export serves a different purpose: it can provide data in a structured or portal-generated file. The official GST Portal GSTR-1 user guide documents downloading e-invoice details as Excel and describes a download-history flow for larger record sets. Look for the relevant form’s own download or export control if you need the data, rather than a visual record of the page.

- Need to show what a page looked like: print the rendered page to PDF, then inspect the saved file.

- Need to report a portal issue: use the GST Self Service Portal and check its live attachment control.

- Open the relevant GST portal page and wait for its content to load. Confirm that you are on the intended page and that any relevant tables or details are visible.
- Check whether the form provides a native download first, particularly if you need structured data.
- Open the browser’s Print command and select its PDF save destination. Review the print preview and available page, layout, and scaling settings.
- Save the file, then open it and check the page context, legibility, page breaks, and lower-page content. A dynamic or scrollable page may not print completely or exactly as displayed.
- Store the file appropriately. A capture may expose taxpayer or account information; do not share credentials, OTPs, or unrelated personal details in it.
Capture a page for a GST support report
The GST Self Service Portal describes uploading screenshots of affected pages to explain issues. Use its current complaint form and follow the attachment controls shown there; the accepted formats and size limits should be checked live rather than assumed.
A CBIC-hosted GST Self Service Portal user manual dated 29 January 2018 described PNG, JPG, JPEG, and PDF attachments, with a maximum of ten files and a combined 5 MB limit. Those are historical instructions, not confirmed current limits.

What a PDF capture does not do
Saving a page does not submit a form, file a return, or verify a taxpayer action. The official GSTR-1 workflow guide describes distinct login and OTP verification steps in the filing workflow. A PDF is only a copy of rendered content, not evidence that those steps were completed or a substitute for a portal-native record.
What is and is not established about VisualScraper
The available documentation does not establish the exact VisualScraper product, its current version, browser requirements, interface, or whether it can make PDFs from authenticated GST pages. It also does not verify full-page capture. Do not rely on guessed VisualScraper buttons or settings: confirm the product and version against its own documentation before following product-specific steps.
