Run Cypress with npx cypress run, then publish its screenshots directory as a pipeline artifact. Cypress automatically takes screenshots when tests fail in run mode; Azure Pipelines can upload them even when the test step fails by setting the publish step to condition: always().
Configure the pipeline to save screenshots
For Azure DevOps Services, add a publish step after the Cypress test step. The default Cypress screenshot directory is cypress/screenshots, relative to the repository’s working directory.

Use your configured screenshots folder
If your Cypress configuration changes screenshotsFolder, publish that location instead of cypress/screenshots. The path must point to the directory Cypress actually writes to. Cypress’s configuration reference documents the setting.

Why the publish step needs an explicit condition
Azure Pipelines normally skips steps when an earlier dependency fails. The test command returns a failure status when tests fail, so a later publish step may not run under the default condition. always() makes the upload step run even if a dependency fails or the build is canceled. A custom condition replaces the default condition, so use it intentionally.
What Cypress captures, and when
Cypress automatically captures a screenshot when a test fails during cypress run, including in CI. It does not automatically capture failure screenshots during cypress open. Automatic screenshots are enabled by default through screenshotOnRunFailure; setting that option to false disables them. Read the Cypress screenshot and video guide for details.

Capture a screenshot at a specific point
To save a screenshot during a test rather than only on failure, use Cypress’s cy.screenshot() command. Cypress saves it into the configured screenshots folder, which the pipeline publish step can then upload.

Choose the right Azure artifact task
The YAML example uses pipeline artifacts, which are supported by Azure DevOps Services. For Azure DevOps Server or TFS 2018, Microsoft directs users to Publish Build Artifacts instead. Do not assume the Services shortcut will work on a Server installation; use the artifact task supported by your deployment. The Publish Pipeline Artifact task reference describes its availability and inputs.

If using the underlying PublishPipelineArtifact@1 task rather than the publish shortcut, provide its required targetPath. It can be an absolute path or a path relative to the default working directory; wildcards are not supported in targetPath.
Handle missing or stale screenshot files
No screenshots were produced
A successful test run may produce no automatic failure screenshots. In that case, the configured screenshot directory might not exist. Ensure it exists before publishing, or guard the publish step with a condition that checks for the directory. The exact guard depends on your agent and pipeline setup; verify it in that environment rather than assuming a missing-path upload will be ignored.

Earlier screenshots disappeared
Cypress defaults trashAssetsBeforeRuns to true, clearing screenshots, videos, and downloads before a run. If you need files from earlier runs retained in those asset folders, set this option to false in Cypress configuration. See the configuration reference.

Check that the publish step comes after the Cypress command and includes condition: always(). Without an explicit condition, a failed test step can prevent the later upload step from running.

The artifact path does not work
Confirm that the path matches the actual screenshotsFolder setting and is valid relative to $(System.DefaultWorkingDirectory), or use the correct absolute path. If using PublishPipelineArtifact@1 directly, its targetPath must identify the file or directory; wildcard paths are unsupported.
