Send a request to its URL-to-image endpoint with your access key, target page URL, and the S3 credentials and destination fields. Set response_type=json if you only need the S3 copy and do not want the image bytes returned to your application.
Send a screenshot directly to S3
Create or choose an S3 bucket and decide the object key—the path and filename the screenshot should have inside the bucket. Then call ApiFlash’s URL-to-image endpoint with the destination parameters. ApiFlash accepts GET requests and POST form data.

This GET example requests a PNG and asks ApiFlash to return JSON rather than the image bytes. Replace every placeholder with your own values; do not put real credentials in a public example, browser application, or log.
curl -G "https://api.apiflash.com/v1/urltoimage"
--data-urlencode "access_key=YOUR_APIFLASH_ACCESS_KEY"
--data-urlencode "url=https://example.com"
--data-urlencode "response_type=json"
--data-urlencode "format=png"
--data-urlencode "s3_access_key_id=YOUR_AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID"
--data-urlencode "s3_secret_key=YOUR_AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY"
--data-urlencode "s3_bucket=YOUR_BUCKET"
--data-urlencode "s3_key=screenshots/example.png"
The target URL must include its protocol, such as https://. With GET, URL-encode parameter values; curl --data-urlencode handles that for you. Treat the AWS credentials and ApiFlash access key as secrets. The documentation identifies the credential parameters but does not specify a least-privilege IAM policy or the bucket-hardening settings for this integration. Use current AWS security guidance to decide how credentials are scoped, stored, rotated, and protected in your deployment.

Choose the response and image format
Use JSON when the S3 object is all you need
response_type=json avoids transferring the screenshot bytes in the HTTP response when the image is being used from S3. Without that setting, ApiFlash’s default response is the image bytes with content headers. Choose the JSON response when your caller needs a response from the API but does not need to process or forward the image itself.
Choose a format and object key
ApiFlash documents jpeg, png, and webp; its documented default is jpeg. Set format explicitly if the file type matters to the application that will read the S3 object. Make the s3_key match the intended filename and path, including an extension consistent with the chosen format.

Use an S3-compatible storage service
For a compatible provider rather than AWS S3, ApiFlash documents s3_endpoint. The optional s3_region may also be needed, depending on the provider. Leaving s3_endpoint empty uses AWS S3. Confirm the endpoint and region values with your storage provider; compatibility details can vary.
Plan for caching, quotas, and request limits
- Cache: ApiFlash documents a default screenshot-cache TTL of 86,400 seconds (one day) and a maximum of 2,592,000 seconds (30 days). It says identical successful requests may return a cached screenshot without counting against the monthly quota.
- Rate limits: ApiFlash documents a processing rate of 20 requests per second with a burst size of 400. Excess requests are delayed until the burst limit is exceeded; further requests receive HTTP
429. Repeated identical failed captures are throttled to five per hour. - Quota checks: Inspect the
X-Quota-Limit,X-Quota-Remaining, andX-Quota-Resetresponse headers, or use the documented quota endpoint at/v1/urltoimage/quota.
These limits and cache behaviors are listed in ApiFlash’s documentation; the documentation page does not state a publication date for them. Check the current documentation when designing a production schedule or deciding how to handle retries.

Troubleshoot ApiFlash responses
| HTTP status | Documented meaning | What to check |
|---|---|---|
400 |
Invalid parameters or target that cannot be captured. | Check parameter names and values, confirm the target URL includes https:// or http://, and verify the page is reachable for capture. |
401 |
Invalid or revoked ApiFlash access key. | Check that the key is current and supplied as access_key. |
402 |
Monthly quota exceeded. | Inspect quota headers or the quota endpoint and review your account’s current allowance. |
403 |
The plan does not support a requested feature. | Check whether the feature used by the request is available on your plan. |
429 |
Rate limit exceeded. | Reduce or queue request volume and respect the documented processing and burst limits. |
500 |
Capture failure in ApiFlash. | Check whether the target can be captured and retry appropriately; repeated identical failed captures are throttled. |
A successful API response alone does not establish that your application can safely access the resulting object. Check the bucket and object access behavior required by your application separately.
Choose between direct upload and handling the image yourself
Direct S3 export is the shorter path when your application needs the screenshot stored in a bucket and has no reason to receive the image bytes. A different architecture is to receive the bytes in your own application and upload them to S3; AWS documents a binary-file upload example using API Gateway. That approach gives your application an explicit role in handling the image, but also means you operate that transfer step. The cited documentation does not quantify cost or performance differences between these architectures.

Or skip the browser setup
If you would rather make a screenshot request than configure capture in a browser, ScreenshotNeo returns a screenshot or PDF from one API call. For a PNG capture saved locally, use this cURL example; create an API key first and replace the target URL as needed. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.
