Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →There is no single Android recording format to blame without inspecting the files. First identify whether “playlist” means an FFmpeg concat list, an HLS playlist, or a YouTube playlist; then use ffprobe to check the recordings and choose either stream-copy concatenation or a normalized re-encode. If it is HLS, check both the segment container and its audio and video sample formats.
First identify which playlist stops
These three things are different, and the repair depends on which one you have:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- FFmpeg concat list: a text file listing media files, commonly passed to FFmpeg with
-f concat. - HLS playlist: a
.m3u8manifest that points to media segments. - YouTube playlist: a collection of separate uploads. It is not an FFmpeg concat list or an HLS manifest.
Note where playback stops. If it stops exactly at a clip or segment boundary, compare the adjacent files and inspect the logs. That is a useful clue, not proof of a particular codec problem.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsInspect the Android recordings before changing them
Probe every file, including the clips on either side of the stop
Run this for each recording:
ffprobe -hide_banner -i phone1.mp4
Replace the filename with each actual file. Compare the detected container; number and order of audio and video streams; video codec and profile, dimensions, frame rate and pixel format; audio codec, sample rate and channel layout; and duration and timestamps. An extension such as .mp4, .3gp, .ts or .webm does not establish which streams the file contains. FFmpeg’s documentation distinguishes concat methods by their requirements; it does not identify which property, if any, differs in your recordings (FFmpeg FAQ: concatenating media).

Do not infer the phone’s codec from the Android label
Android’s MediaRecorder supports multiple output formats. Its API specifically recommends 3GP when using H.263 video with AMR audio, warning that MPEG-4 with that combination may confuse some desktop players. That is a conditional recommendation, not evidence that your phone or recording app used those codecs (Android MediaRecorder API: setOutputFormat).
Android’s MediaRecorder overview says MPEG-2 TS support was added in Android 8.0 (API level 26) and describes it as useful for streaming. This does not establish that a particular device or app recorded TS (Android MediaRecorder overview).

If the playlist is an FFmpeg concat list
Use stream copy only when the streams are suitable
The concat demuxer can avoid re-encoding, but use it with -c copy only after checking that the clips have compatible stream layouts and parameters. Matching extensions alone are not enough. If the streams differ in ways that make stream-copy output unreliable, normalize and join them with the concat filter instead. FFmpeg describes the concat filter as the method to use when re-encoding is needed (FFmpeg FAQ: concatenating media).
Use the concat filter when a normalized output is needed
This video-only example shows the command shape for two inputs; it is illustrative, not a confirmed fix for unspecified recordings. Adapt dimensions, audio handling and output settings to the probed files:

ffmpeg -i phone1.mp4 -i phone2.mp4 -filter_complex "[0:v:0][1:v:0]concat=n=2:v=1:a=0[v]" -map "[v]" -c:v libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p normalized.mp4
If both files contain audio that should be retained, include and map audio inputs too, using the concat filter with audio enabled. Normalize audio first if its layout or other relevant properties differ. Do not paste the video-only example unchanged when audio matters.

If the playlist is HLS
Check the manifest, the failing segment and playback support
- Inspect the exact media playlist and identify the segment at which playback stops.
- Confirm that every referenced URI resolves and that the segment exists and is complete.
- Check the segment container and the audio and video sample formats inside it against the Android player’s supported formats. A valid-looking
.m3u8file or familiar segment extension does not guarantee sample compatibility. Android’s Media3 ExoPlayer HLS guide makes support for the contained audio and video sample formats part of HLS compatibility (Android Media3: HLS). - If FFmpeg creates more than one HLS variant, verify that the output filename pattern contains
%v, as FFmpeg’s HLS documentation requires for multiple variants (FFmpeg formats: HLS).
Do not apply the multi-variant filename rule to a single-variant workflow. Without the playlist, segment files and logs, the exact HLS failure cannot be determined.

Verify the repair at the original stopping point
- Probe the converted or joined output with
ffprobe -hide_banner -i normalized.mp4and check its streams and duration. - Play through the former clip or segment boundary in the same Android app where the problem appeared.
- Review the FFmpeg output for stream, timestamp or file errors. For HLS, also verify the referenced segment paths and files.
- If playback still stops, collect the probe output for the adjacent recordings, the full FFmpeg command and useful log lines, the playlist text if it is HLS, and the playback app and Android version. Those details are needed to distinguish a stream-compatibility issue from a missing segment or playlist-structure problem.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep a YouTube channel live from prerecorded videos, StreamNeo is a separate option from fixing this Android playback problem: upload the video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it loops in the cloud. Any quality up to 4K 60fps streams as uploaded at one price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. It streams prerecorded video to YouTube, not from a camera. Learn about StreamNeo or start the free day.
