Do not rely on YouTube’s automatic archive alone: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
Choose the copy you need
A YouTube replay and an independent backup are separate copies. The replay stays on your channel and can be made private or deleted; a downloaded or exported copy gives you a file outside YouTube. For an important recording, keep the original local recording as well as a cloud copy. YouTube Help recommends recording a local archive as a backup: Archive live streams.

- One recording: Download it from YouTube Studio, then upload the file to your cloud storage. The documented download is MP4 at 720p or 360p, depending on video size.
- Many uploaded videos: Use Google Takeout to export YouTube data, then choose an offered cloud destination or download the export and upload it yourself.
- Best preservation of your source: Keep the recording made by your streaming software or capture setup. YouTube’s Studio download may not be the original camera or encoder file.
Before and during the livestream
Record a local copy
If you need a dependable archive, enable recording in your streaming software or capture setup before going live, and verify that the file is being written. YouTube explicitly recommends a local archive as a backup. Keep that file until you have confirmed that any cloud copy has finished uploading and opens correctly.
Keep the stream under 12 hours if relying on YouTube’s archive
YouTube says it can automatically archive livestreams shorter than 12 hours, including encoder, webcam, and mobile streams. If a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. The 12-hour threshold is YouTube’s stated guidance, not a guarantee that every shorter stream will archive successfully. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

- Get NVMe solid state performance with up to 1050MB/s read and 1000MB/s write speeds in a portable, high-capacity drive(1) (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device & other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)

Find and manage the YouTube replay
- Sign in to the YouTube account or channel that streamed the event and open YouTube Studio.
- Select Content, then Live.
- Find the past stream and open its details or menu to manage the archive. You can change its visibility or delete it. YouTube says an archive is uploaded to the channel by default.
If the video is absent, check that you are in the right channel or Brand Account and allow for processing. If you streamed for more than 12 hours, YouTube warns the broadcast may not have been captured. Do not treat the channel replay as your only preservation copy.
Download one of your own livestreams
- In YouTube Studio, open Content and locate the video. For a past broadcast, check the Live tab.
- Open the video’s menu and choose Download.
- Save the MP4, then upload it to your chosen cloud-storage account and confirm that the upload completed.
YouTube documents individual Studio downloads at 720p or 360p, depending on video size; this is not a promise of a byte-identical copy of your original local recording. A video cannot be downloaded through this workflow if it was removed, has a copyright or Community Guidelines strike, or uses a pre-approved audio track. YouTube also limits an individual video to five downloads in 24 hours. Details: Download YouTube videos that you’ve uploaded.

- Open Google Takeout and sign in to the account containing the channel’s videos.
- Choose the YouTube data to include in the export. YouTube videos are among the exportable data.
- Choose a delivery method. Google Takeout can offer cloud destinations such as Drive, Box, OneDrive, or Dropbox; available choices can vary. Alternatively, download the export and upload it to your preferred cloud account.
- Check that the destination account has enough available space, then create and retrieve the export according to the on-screen instructions.
- Open a sample exported file and verify it before relying on the archive.
If a channel is connected to a Brand Account, Google says you may need to switch to that account to find the right videos. Exporting copies data; Google says it does not delete the data from Google’s servers. The cited Takeout guidance does not promise that every livestream export is byte-identical to the local source recording.

Plan storage and keep a second copy
There is no universal storage amount for livestream archives. File size depends on recording length, resolution, bitrate, and how many streams you retain. Estimate from the files you actually record, then allow room for new recordings and any additional versions you keep. Cloud quotas, pricing, and export turnaround depend on the provider and account; check the destination’s current terms rather than assuming a particular allowance.
- Keep the local original until the cloud upload is complete and verified.
- Use a separate copy for recordings you cannot recreate; a channel replay and a cloud export have different failure modes.
- Remember that changing or deleting a YouTube archive does not itself remove an exported copy, and exporting does not delete the channel video.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is for keeping uploaded videos live on a YouTube channel around the clock; it is not a livestream recording backup or cloud-storage archive. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. It does not go live from a camera.
