To keep related Chrome pages together without leaving them open, put them in a tab group and choose Close group. Chrome keeps a closed group available to reopen from the bookmarks bar or menu. For a single page, use a bookmark; to restore a broader session when Chrome starts, choose Continue where you left off. These options preserve different things, so use the one that matches what you want to return to.
Choose the right way to save your tabs

Chrome’s published steps can vary slightly by platform or version. The desktop, Android, and iPhone/iPad controls are not interchangeable.

Save related pages in a desktop tab group
- Create or choose a group: Select the tabs you want to organize, then use Chrome’s tab-group controls to create a new group or add them to an existing one.
- Name and color it: Give the group a descriptive name and choose a color so it is easier to identify among your tabs.
- Add related tabs: Add other relevant pages to the group as needed.
- Close it when you are ready: Right-click the group and select Close group. Google says this closes the group without deleting it; it remains available from the bookmarks bar or menu, where you can reopen it. See Google’s instructions for using tab groups in Chrome.
If you cannot see closed groups in the bookmarks bar, check Chrome’s Appearance settings for the option to show tab groups there. Google’s help page documents this setting, though labels and availability may vary across versions.

Bookmark pages you want to keep independently
Use bookmarks when a page matters on its own and should remain easy to find regardless of whether its tab group is open. On iPhone or iPad, Chrome also offers Reading List for pages you want to return to; its tab-switcher workflow is different from desktop bookmarking.

Set Chrome to continue where you left off
On a computer, open Chrome’s startup settings and choose Continue where you left off to have Chrome reopen the previous browsing session when it starts. This is for resuming a broader session, not for creating a tidy, durable archive of selected pages. Google describes startup options in its Chrome startup settings help.
Reopen a tab or window you already closed
To reopen something closed recently, press Ctrl+Shift+T on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+T on Mac. Chrome’s help documents this shortcut for a recently closed tab or window. It is a recovery action, separate from closing and later reopening a saved tab group; do not rely on it as a long-term record of every page you have visited. Save and reopen tabs on Android
Chrome for Android supports tab groups, and Google says group changes are automatically saved and synced across devices when you are signed in. To reopen a closed group, go to Tab groups. The tab switcher also has an Inactive tabs section: tap an inactive tab or group there to restore it. Settings let you turn off open-tab syncing or automatic opening of groups from other devices. Save and reopen tabs on iPhone or iPad
Chrome’s iPhone and iPad instructions provide options to save a page as a bookmark or add it to Reading List from the tab switcher. You can also close all tab groups and reopen a closed group from the tab-groups view. Follow the iOS controls rather than desktop right-click steps. What to check if a group or tab does not appear
- Closed desktop group: Look in the bookmarks bar or menu. If groups are missing from the bar, check the Appearance setting for showing tab groups.
- Android group or tab: Check Tab groups and the tab switcher’s Inactive tabs area. If you expect items from another device, confirm you are signed in and review tab-sync settings.
- Recently closed page or window: Use the platform’s reopen shortcut promptly; Chrome documents it for recently closed items, not as permanent storage.
- Important page you need to keep: Bookmark it rather than relying only on session recovery.
