To save a webpage as one self-contained HTML file in Firefox, install the SingleFile extension, wait for the page to finish loading, then click the SingleFile button in the toolbar. The file is saved to Firefox’s configured downloads folder by default.
Save a webpage as one HTML file
- Install SingleFile. Open the SingleFile listing on Firefox Add-ons and add the extension to Firefox. The listing describes it as saving a page with resources such as CSS, images, fonts, and frames in a single HTML file.
- Load the page completely. Open the webpage you want to keep and wait until it has finished loading. If its content appears progressively, wait for that content too before capturing.
- Save it. Click the SingleFile button in Firefox’s extension toolbar. The extension processes the page and downloads the resulting HTML file. Clicking the button again while it is processing cancels the operation.
- Locate the file. Look in Firefox’s configured downloads folder. If it is not there, check Firefox’s download settings to confirm the destination.
The saved file can be opened as HTML without the SingleFile extension, but it is a snapshot rather than a guarantee that every interactive feature or media element will behave exactly as it did online. See the SingleFile project README for the project’s format notes and known issues.

Save only part of a page, or handle several tabs
Selected text, frames, and links
Right-click the SingleFile toolbar button or the webpage to see contextual save options. Depending on the selection, you can save selected content, a selected frame, or selected links instead of the whole page.
Annotate or remove content before saving
Choose “Annotate and save the page…” from the available context-menu actions to highlight text, add notes, or remove content before creating the saved file.

Process multiple tabs
SingleFile provides actions for selected tabs, unpinned tabs, or all tabs. Use these when you need to archive a group of pages rather than repeatedly clicking through each tab.
Automatic saving and keyboard shortcut
The context menu can enable automatic saving after pages load for the current tab, unpinned tabs, or all tabs. The Firefox Add-ons listing also documents a customizable Ctrl+Shift+Y shortcut. When text is selected, the shortcut saves the selection; custom keyboard shortcut commands save the entire page.

Choose a local file or a cloud destination
Saving locally to Firefox’s downloads folder is the basic workflow; you do not need a cloud account. SingleFile also has a Destination section in its options for uploading pages to Google Drive, Dropbox, GitHub, or WebDAV. These destinations are optional. What a SingleFile copy may not preserve
- Protected Mozilla pages: Browser security restrictions prevent saving pages hosted on addons.mozilla.org and some other Mozilla domains.
- Canvas and video: The project warns that it may not be able to save the image representation of canvas elements or snapshots of video elements.
- Dynamic or interactive behavior: A saved page is an offline snapshot; do not assume that scripts, live data, embedded media, or interactive controls will work as they do on the original site.
For pages where a detail matters, open the saved file and check that the text, images, and layout you need are present. Keep the original URL as well if you may need live content or behavior that a static copy cannot retain.

Troubleshoot a save that fails or looks incomplete
The file is missing
Check Firefox’s configured downloads folder and download settings. If the file still does not appear, return to the page, wait for it to finish loading, and try saving again.
The saved page is incomplete
Wait for delayed page content to load before clicking SingleFile. For canvas or video content, incomplete capture can reflect the project’s documented limitations rather than a setting you can fix.

SingleFile does not work reliably
The extension listing’s developer comments suggest resetting SingleFile’s options, restarting Firefox, and checking for conflicts with other extensions if the issue persists.

If the page is hosted on addons.mozilla.org or another restricted Mozilla domain, browser security restrictions may prevent the save. SingleFile cannot override those restrictions.

Permissions and current listing details
The Firefox Add-ons listing says SingleFile requires permissions to download files and read or modify download history, access browser tabs, and access data for all websites. It lists messaging with non-Firefox programs, bookmark access, and clipboard input as optional permissions. Review the listing when installing if you want to check the current permission details.
As displayed by Mozilla on October 3, 2026, the listing showed version 1.28.0, last updated October 2, 2026, and a rating of 4.8 from 1,043 reviewers. Those are listing details at that time, not evidence of capture accuracy or a guarantee that every page will be saved completely.
