Save Page WE creates a local .html file; pasting a webpage address into WhatsApp sends only a link. To share the saved copy, attach the file as a document—if it appears in your device’s document picker—and check that it opens correctly before sending.
Save a webpage with Save Page WE
- Open the page in Chrome or Firefox and wait for the content you want to keep to load.
- Select the Save Page WE toolbar button or use its context-menu command. In Firefox, the add-on listing documents the Alt+A shortcut; its listing says you can change the shortcut in the extension options.
- Choose the save mode that fits what you need. Basic saves essential items; Standard includes additional listed resource categories; Custom lets you choose among resource categories. The default file extension is
.html. Note where the browser downloads it. - Open the downloaded file locally and inspect the images, layout, and any embedded content you care about before sharing.
Save Page WE’s Chrome and Firefox listings describe saving a displayed webpage and its referenced resources into one HTML file. A saved page is not necessarily a perfect, self-contained replica: dynamic or lazy-loaded content and inaccessible resources may be missing. The Firefox listing specifically notes that some cross-origin frames cannot be saved and scripts in cross-origin frames are not saved. The listings show Chrome version 33.9, last updated September 5, 2023, and Firefox version 28.11, last updated March 31, 2023; those are listing metadata, not evidence that the workflow was newly tested. Send the live webpage link
- Copy the page’s original URL from the browser address bar.
- Open the individual or group chat in WhatsApp, paste the URL into the message field, then send it.
WhatsApp says a message containing only a link creates a preview. This shares the address, not your offline capture. See WhatsApp’s instructions for sending media, contacts, or location.

Attach the saved HTML file
- Open the intended WhatsApp chat and select the attachment option, then choose Document.
- Browse to the downloaded
.htmlfile. If it appears in the picker, select it and send it. - If it does not appear, use your device’s file manager or browser downloads to locate it, or transfer it to the device where you use WhatsApp and try the document picker there.
- Tell the recipient what the attachment is and, if useful, that it should be opened with a browser. Do not assume it will preview or open the same way on every device.
WhatsApp’s cited Android and web instructions list a 2 GB maximum for documents; they do not specifically name HTML as a supported extension. WhatsApp’s document-sending instructions describe the attachment flow. For iPhone, the Help Center also describes sharing URLs and supported content such as PDF through the iOS share extension, but that is not a promise of inline HTML support; using the in-chat Document picker is the clearer way to try to send the saved file itself. Troubleshooting
- The saved page is missing images or other content: Wait for the content to load before saving, and try Standard or Custom instead of Basic. Some dynamic, lazy-loaded, cross-origin, or otherwise inaccessible content may not be captured.
- The layout looks different when opened locally: Check the file in a browser and compare the important content before sending. A single HTML capture does not guarantee every live feature or external resource will work offline.
- You cannot find the file in WhatsApp: Check the browser’s download location, then browse for the file through the document picker or transfer it to the device running WhatsApp.
- The recipient cannot open or preview the attachment: WhatsApp’s cited instructions do not guarantee HTML handling across clients. Ask them to open the file with a browser, or send the original URL if they only need to visit the live page.
- The shortcut does not work: The Firefox listing documents Alt+A and says the shortcut can be changed in extension options. Use the toolbar button or context menu if the shortcut is unavailable or assigned differently.
Device and availability notes
Save Page WE is listed for Chrome and Firefox, and its Firefox listing says the two extensions have identical functions and interfaces. WhatsApp is available across mobile, desktop, tablet, and browser access, but you may need to move the download to the device where you use WhatsApp. WhatsApp’s download page lists iOS 15.1 or newer for iPhone and Android OS 6.0 or above for the displayed Android app version; check the live WhatsApp download page for current requirements, since these can change.
