If a website’s own Print button is missing or broken, try your browser’s built-in Print command instead. In Firefox, open Print and choose Save to PDF. In Microsoft Edge, open Print from the menu or use a keyboard shortcut, then check the preview for a PDF destination. If printing is disabled by a school or employer policy—or you do not have permission to keep an offline copy—ask the administrator or content provider for an authorized copy. A browser workaround cannot resolve every kind of block.
First, identify what “blocks printing” means
The phrase can describe several different problems, and the right next step depends on which one you see:

- The website’s Print button is absent or fails: use the browser’s own Print command.
- Print preview opens but content is missing or rearranged: try a simplified or reader view if available, then inspect the output carefully.
- No printer or PDF destination is available: the browser or device may be managed with a policy that restricts printing.
- The page requires an account or limits offline copies: keep the required session active and seek an authorized copy if the site’s permissions prevent saving.
These symptoms do not prove a particular cause. For example, Chrome Enterprise documentation says administrators can configure print destinations, and selecting all printer types effectively disables printing; that is one possible explanation, not a diagnosis of your device. - Load the page fully. Wait for the content you need to appear. If the page requires sign-in, keep the relevant account session active.
- Open the browser’s Print command, not the site’s Print button. In Firefox, open the browser menu and choose Print. In Edge, choose Print from the menu or use a documented keyboard shortcut. Firefox printing guidance · Microsoft Edge printing guidance
- Choose a PDF destination if one is offered. Firefox documents the destination label Save to PDF. In Edge, inspect the available destinations in the print interface.
- Check the preview before saving. Review page count, orientation, margins, and the first and last pages. Confirm the material you need is present.
- Save, then open the PDF. Verify that its text, images, and sections are usable before relying on it.
Print output can differ from the page displayed in the browser. Mozilla notes that web pages can be designed to appear differently on paper, so a preview check matters. Mozilla Support

Improve a cluttered or incomplete printout
Firefox Simplified format
When available in Firefox’s print controls, try Simplified format for an article with navigation, ads, or other clutter. Mozilla says its simplified format can remove items such as buttons, ads, and background images. That can make the text easier to read, but it may also remove visual material you wanted to preserve. Edge Immersive Reader
On supported websites, open the page in Immersive Reader and print from that view if it gives you a cleaner result. Microsoft says Immersive Reader is not available for every website. If its control is missing, that alone does not mean Edge is broken. Microsoft Edge printing guidance

Chrome Reading mode
Chrome Reading mode may help with supported pages, but it is not a universal print route. Google lists formats such as image galleries, interactive maps, forms, quizzes, payment pages, and login screens as cases where Reading mode may not work as expected. Google Chrome Help
Print only a selection or open the system dialog
Edge documents two alternatives that can help in specific situations:

- Print selected content: select the text or content you need, open Print, and choose the option to print the selection if available. Check the preview to make sure the selection includes everything required.
- Open the system print dialog: if Edge’s browser print preview is not working, use its option to open the system dialog. The available destinations still depend on the device and its configuration.

When a managed device has no PDF destination
If you are using a school- or employer-managed browser or computer and every print destination is missing or unavailable, ask the organization’s IT administrator whether printing is restricted. Do not try to change administrator-controlled settings yourself. Google’s Chrome policy documentation establishes that managed settings can disable printing by blocking all printer types, but the symptom alone cannot confirm that this is what happened on your device. If access controls or the site’s terms prevent an offline copy, ask the content provider for an authorized PDF or other permitted format.

Should you try a browser extension?
An extension may offer another way to format or capture a page, but its listing is not proof that it will work on the particular site you are trying to save. The Chrome Web Store listing for PrintFriendly: Print, PDF Editor & Full Page Screenshot advertises PDF conversion and full-page capture; that is the vendor’s description, not an independently verified result for your page. Before installing any extension, review its permissions and privacy terms. An extension should not be treated as a way to defeat access controls or managed-device policy.

Troubleshooting common failures
