First save and inspect the PDF; if a printer or submission portal explicitly requires 300 DPI, confirm whether it means rasterized page output, embedded image resolution, or the printer’s output setting. Those are different things.
Save the webpage as a PDF
- Open the webpage and wait for the text, images, and other content you need to finish loading.
- Open the browser’s Print dialog. In Firefox, choose Save to PDF from the destination menu. In Edge, open Print and select an available PDF destination, if offered by your system.
- Check the preview. Set paper size and orientation, then adjust scale and margins to avoid clipping. Decide whether to include backgrounds, headers, and footers.
- Save the PDF, open it, and inspect the page breaks, text, images, and links. Web pages may arrange themselves differently for paper than they do on screen.
Firefox
Open the menu and choose Print, select Save to PDF as the destination, adjust the available options, and select Print to save. Firefox documents controls for paper size, scale, pages per sheet, margins, format, headers and footers, and backgrounds. Its simplified format option disables backgrounds. Mozilla’s Firefox printing instructions describe the workflow.

Microsoft Edge
Open Print with Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS, or use the browser menu or page context menu. Review the available paper, scale, background graphics, print quality, and system print-dialog options. Some choices depend on the printer and operating system. Microsoft’s print-quality choices such as 600 DPI or 1200 DPI refer to print output; they are not a general guarantee that Save to PDF creates a 300-DPI file. See Microsoft’s Edge print guidance.

What “300 DPI” means for a webpage PDF
DPI describes dots per inch in a printing or raster-output context. For images placed in a PDF, resolution is commonly discussed in pixels per inch (PPI). A webpage PDF can contain selectable text and vector graphics as well as raster images; it need not be one flat image with a single DPI value. A raster image’s effective resolution depends on its pixel dimensions and the size at which it is placed. Enlarging a small image does not restore detail that was not in the source.

Adobe’s PDF settings overview distinguishes printer resolution from image resolution and gives example pairings: 300-dpi laser printer with 120-ppi image resolution; 600-dpi laser printer with 170-ppi; 1200-dpi imagesetter with 240-ppi; and 2400-dpi imagesetter with 300-ppi. These are examples, not a universal specification for every PDF. Check the receiving printer or publication’s requirements. Adobe’s PDF settings overview explains image processing and resolution.
When a workflow really does need 300 DPI
Ask whoever set the requirement what must be 300 DPI: an image file, images embedded in a PDF, a rasterized image of every page, or the final printer output. Use a tool with an explicit resolution control for that specific step. Do not treat page scale, print quality, or a PDF export button as interchangeable with image resolution.

Rasterize an existing PDF for printing
Microsoft’s Edge policy named PrintRasterizePdfDpi controls print image resolution when Edge prints PDFs with rasterization. Microsoft’s example 300-DPI value is scoped to rasterized PDF printing, not webpage-to-PDF export. The policy documentation was last updated May 22, 2026. Read Microsoft’s policy documentation.

Convert a webpage with Acrobat
Acrobat’s webpage conversion settings include encoding, colors, backgrounds, image inclusion, page size, orientation, margins, and fitting wide content. Those settings control conversion and layout; the documented options do not specify a universal 300-DPI setting for webpage conversion. Adobe’s webpage conversion guide lists its controls.

Troubleshooting
- Content is cut off: Return to Print preview and adjust paper size, orientation, scale, or margins. Wide layouts may need landscape orientation or a smaller scale.
- Images or sections are missing: Wait for the page and its images to load before printing, then check the PDF. Lazy-loaded content may not appear until it has been brought into view.
- The saved PDF does not say 300 DPI: A browser’s webpage-to-PDF workflow may not expose a universal DPI control. Confirm what the receiving party means by 300 DPI and use an explicit rasterization or print-resolution workflow if required.
- Text looks jagged after printing: Check whether the PDF was rasterized or printed as an image. Those workflows can affect edge smoothness; use the original PDF with selectable text when the destination permits it.
- Print quality choices are unavailable: The available settings can depend on the selected printer and system. For a PDF destination, do not assume a printer-quality option sets the resolution of the webpage PDF itself.

Does increasing print DPI add detail to a small image on the webpage?
No. Higher output resolution cannot restore detail absent from the source image. Effective image resolution depends on the image’s pixel dimensions and its placement size.
