To save a webpage as a readable PDF, open the browser’s print dialog, choose its PDF destination, and check the preview before saving. If content runs off the edge, try landscape orientation or reduce the scale slightly; then adjust paper size and margins one at a time. Inspect the saved PDF as well, because print styling can differ from what you see on screen.
Use the print preview to fix clipping
- Open Print. On desktop, use the browser’s Print command or keyboard shortcut.
- Choose a PDF destination. Select Save as PDF or the equivalent destination available on your device.
- Check the preview before saving. Look at the first and last page, the right edge of wide content, images, and page breaks.
- Change one setting at a time. For content cut off at the right, try landscape orientation or reduce scale just enough to fit. Recheck that the text is still readable.
- Adjust paper size and margins if needed. These settings change the usable area on each page. Recheck the preview after each change.
- Save and inspect the PDF. Confirm that the final pages and important content appear as expected.
No single setting guarantees a perfect PDF for every website: the site’s print styles and the browser’s page layout both affect the result.

Save a webpage as a PDF in Chrome
On a Windows or Linux computer, open the page and press Ctrl+P, or use File > Print. On a Mac, press Command+P. Choose the available PDF destination, review the print settings and preview, then save. The exact destination label and controls can vary by platform. Chrome’s print output can also follow the webpage’s print-specific CSS, including the @page rule.

Open the print dialog and expand More settings. Firefox documents controls for paper size, scale, pages per sheet, margins, headers and footers, and backgrounds. Where available, the format setting offers Original or Simplified. Simplified format can reduce clutter, but changes the printed presentation and cannot be combined with printing backgrounds. Review the preview after changing the format or layout.

Save a webpage as a PDF in Microsoft Edge
Open Settings and more > Print, or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS. Under More settings, Edge documents Fit to printable area, Actual size, and Custom scale. For a wide page, try Fit to printable area or a custom scale, then confirm that the reduced text remains readable. Microsoft says minimum margins on many printers are around 0.25 inches (6.35 mm); this is general printer guidance, not a guarantee for every printer or PDF destination. Check the preview before saving.
Save a webpage as a PDF on iPhone or iPad
Safari
Apple’s documented Safari route is: open the webpage, tap the Page Menu and Share, tap Markup, then tap Done. Choose Save File To, name the PDF, and save it.

Chrome
Google’s cited Chrome help for iPhone and iPad describes printing with AirPrint. It does not document a direct PDF-save destination, so do not assume the desktop Save as PDF workflow is available in the same form on iOS. The controls you see can depend on your iOS version and available print destinations.

A webpage’s screen layout is designed for a display, while a PDF divides it into page-sized areas. Browser and site print styles, paper size, orientation, scale, and margins determine what fits on each page. CSS @page can set page size and margins; browser-generated headers and footers also occupy page-margin space. Chrome for Developers notes that Chrome and Firefox support @page, and that Chrome 131 added generated content in page-margin boxes. A site may therefore look different in print preview than it does in the browser tab.

Troubleshooting a clipped or awkward PDF
- The right side is missing: Switch to landscape or reduce the scale slightly. In Edge, try Fit to printable area; in Firefox, use its orientation and scale controls. Avoid shrinking more than necessary.
- Text is too small after fitting: Restore a larger scale and try landscape or a different paper size instead. If the layout is still too wide, save only the relevant page range where the print dialog permits it.
- Content is cut off at page breaks: Inspect the preview around the affected break. Try a different scale or paper size, and check whether the site’s print layout is responsible.
- Headers or footers take up space: Check the browser’s headers-and-footers setting if available, then review the preview again.
- Background colors or images are missing: Check whether printing backgrounds is enabled. In Firefox, Simplified format cannot be combined with printing backgrounds.
- The page contains clutter such as navigation or popups: If Firefox offers Simplified format, preview it to see whether it helps. It changes the presentation, so confirm that the content you need remains.
- The preview looks right but the saved file does not: Open the PDF and check it directly. Print rendering can vary by browser and webpage, so the preview alone is not a substitute for checking the result.
