Save a Firefox webpage as a PDF with its background colors
- Open the webpage you want to save.
- Open the Firefox menu and select Print… to open print preview.
- Under Destination, select Save to PDF.
- Expand More settings and turn on Print backgrounds.
- If Format is available, leave it set to Original. Choosing Simplified disables Print backgrounds, according to Mozilla’s Firefox printing instructions.
- Check the preview, then click Print and choose where to save the PDF if prompted.
Mozilla documents these controls, but does not provide a platform-by-platform or Firefox-version placement matrix. The exact location or wording can therefore vary.

Why the PDF may not match the webpage on screen
Enabling Print backgrounds asks Firefox to include background colors and images in printed output; it does not guarantee an exact copy of the screen. Websites can use print-specific layouts, and browser print preferences can affect colors. MDN explains that CSS print-color-adjust can request color fidelity, but a user’s choice not to print backgrounds in the print dialog takes precedence (MDN: Using color wisely).
If the preview still looks wrong
- Confirm Print backgrounds is enabled in More settings.
- Make sure Format is Original, not Simplified.
- Inspect the print preview before saving: it shows the print version Firefox is preparing, which may differ from the page displayed in a normal browser tab.
