Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesOn a desktop, open the webpage in Chrome and press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on Mac. Choose Save as PDF if it appears as a destination, then save the file. If Hindi or other Devanagari text is missing, first check whether it disappears on the webpage itself, in Chrome’s print preview, or only in the saved PDF; each points to a different part of the process.
Save a webpage as a PDF in desktop Chrome
- Open the webpage in Chrome and wait for its content to finish loading.
- Press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on Mac. You can also use File > Print. Google documents these print entry points and the destination and settings workflow in its Chrome printing instructions.
- Check the print preview, including the Devanagari text and text near page boundaries.
- Choose Save as PDF as the destination if available. Review settings such as paper size, layout, scale and margins if needed; controls and labels can vary by operating system and Chrome version.
- Save the file and open it in a PDF viewer. Compare the saved result with both the live webpage and the print preview.
Saving to Google Drive is an optional storage path, not a fix for missing characters. Google documents saving to Drive through an extension or by saving a PDF and uploading it through Drive for desktop or the Drive website.

Find where the Devanagari text disappears
Compare three stages: the live webpage, Chrome’s print preview and the saved PDF opened in a viewer. This is a practical diagnostic approach, not a Google-prescribed Devanagari repair. Note which stage first lacks the text before changing settings or reporting the issue.

Reload once and compare the same page in another browser. If the characters are absent there too, contact the site owner and ask whether its Devanagari webfont or fallback font loaded successfully.
- Visible on the webpage, missing in print preview: Save a test PDF and inspect it. You can also try another browser’s print-to-PDF path as a workaround. Keep the page URL and browser and operating-system versions so the issue can be reproduced.
- Visible in preview, missing in the saved file: Open the PDF in a second viewer. If it displays correctly there, the first viewer may be involved. If the output remains wrong, retain the file and report the steps and versions to the site or browser support.
Google’s print guide explains how to print from Chrome, but it does not document a universal fix for Devanagari text disappearing in preview or output.

Check whether the PDF contains text or only an image
Try selecting a line of text or searching for a word in the PDF. If the page is a scan or image and its text is not selectable or searchable, OCR may help. Chrome’s PDF viewer can OCR scanned physical-document PDFs on device, according to Google’s Chrome PDF help. OCR is not a remedy for live webpage glyphs omitted during printing; it cannot restore characters that were never rendered into the PDF.
Should you install a Devanagari font?
Font availability is a reasonable diagnostic question, but installing a font is not a guaranteed fix. Noto Sans Devanagari is a Devanagari font specimen. Its availability does not establish that the affected webpage uses it or that installing it will repair Chrome’s print output. If the text is missing on the live page, ask the site administrator which font and fallback are intended.

What to include when reporting the problem
- Your operating system and Chrome version.
- The affected page URL.
- Whether Devanagari appears on the live page and in print preview.
- Whether it appears in the saved PDF, and which PDF viewer you used.
- Whether the PDF text can be selected or searched.
- Whether another browser or viewer changes the result.
These details help distinguish a page-specific rendering issue from a local preview, PDF output or viewer problem. The available guidance does not establish that one browser or PDF viewer is categorically better for Devanagari output.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Chrome have a setting that always fixes missing Hindi text in PDFs?
No universal Devanagari-specific repair is documented in Google’s Chrome printing guidance. Check whether the text is missing on the page, in preview or only in the saved file.
Can OCR restore Hindi characters omitted when Chrome prints a webpage?
No. Chrome’s documented OCR applies to scanned physical-document PDFs; it does not recreate glyphs omitted from a webpage printout.
