To save a webpage as a JPEG, capture the rendered page as an image and then use an export path that explicitly supports JPEG. Saving a page from a browser menu normally creates HTML, a folder of assets, text, or a Web Archive—not a JPEG. Do not rename a PNG file to .jpg; changing the extension does not convert the image format.
First decide whether you need only the visible browser window or the entire scrolling page. Then choose a built-in browser capture, a full-page extension with JPEG export, or an automated screenshot service.
Choose the right kind of capture
A visible-area screenshot records what is currently inside the browser viewport. A full-page screenshot stitches or renders content below the fold into one tall image. The latter is usually what people mean by “save the whole webpage as a JPEG.”
- Visible area: useful for a chart, dialog, checkout step, or a design detail currently on screen.
- Full page: useful for documenting an article, landing page, receipt, or long design review.
- Webpage download: saves HTML and supporting files for offline viewing; it is not an image capture.
JPEG uses lossy compression. It can make a smaller file and suits photographs, but PNG generally keeps small text, icons, and interface lines sharper. If legibility matters, keep the original PNG and create a JPEG copy only when required.

Firefox: capture a full page, then convert PNG to JPEG
Firefox’s built-in screenshot tool documents a Save full page option and downloads an image file. Mozilla’s documented filename ends in .png, so this workflow does not establish direct JPEG export.
- Open the page in Firefox and wait for the content you need to appear.
- Open the page context menu and choose Take Screenshot (wording can change between Firefox versions).
- Choose Save full page for the entire scrollable document, or select the visible area.
- Click Download to save the image file. Mozilla Support describes this as “Download as image file: Click Download to save the screenshot as an image file.”
- Open the resulting PNG in an image editor and use Export or Save As, selecting JPEG/JPG and an appropriate quality setting.
Before sharing, check the exported dimensions and zoom into paragraphs, navigation labels, and small controls. A very tall image may be difficult to view; a PDF or several cropped images can be more practical for distribution.
Microsoft Edge: use Screenshot for a selected area or full webpage
Microsoft’s Screenshot feature can capture a selected region or a full webpage, including content below the visible screen, and lets you copy or save the result. The cited Microsoft feature page does not specify JPEG output. Availability and functionality can vary by device type, market, and browser version.
- Open the webpage in Edge.
- Open the browser menu and choose Screenshot (the exact location and label may vary by version).
- Select the full-page option if you need content below the fold, or drag over a visible area.
- Use the available save or copy controls, then inspect the file type offered by your installed Edge build.
- If the result is PNG or another format, convert it in an image editor that explicitly exports JPEG.
Do not promise JPEG output until the save dialog in your own version lists JPEG/JPG. If the full-page command is missing, update Edge where your organization’s policy permits, or use an extension or a conversion workflow.
Safari on Mac: screenshot first, convert when necessary
Safari’s documented page-saving commands create a Web Archive or Page Source. They are preservation/download functions, not a webpage-to-JPEG screenshot command.

- For an image, capture the page with macOS’s screenshot tools or another capture method rather than choosing Save Page As.
- Capture the visible window, or use a full-page-capable workflow if you need below-the-fold content.
- If Safari’s available path creates a PDF or another format, open it in Preview or an image editor that supports JPEG export.
- Use File → Export, choose JPEG, set quality, and verify the output.
Keep the distinction clear: converting a capture creates an image of the rendered page; saving a Web Archive preserves webpage resources for later opening.
Use a Chrome or Chromium extension when JPEG export is required
The Page to Image Chrome Web Store listing describes visible-area and full-page capture with PNG or JPEG output. It says processing occurs locally and files are saved to Downloads; those privacy, quality, and performance statements are claims from the extension developer, not independent test results. Its support page says it runs in Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers, including Edge, Brave, and Arc.
- Open the current Chrome Web Store listing and verify the publisher, permissions, supported browser, and current export options.
- Install the extension only if its permissions fit your organization’s policy.
- Open the target page, wait for dynamic content and images to finish loading, and set browser zoom to 100% if the extension’s guidance recommends it.
- Choose visible-area or full-page capture.
- Select JPEG as the output format and save the file.
- Open the result and inspect long sections, fixed headers, cookie notices, lazy-loaded images, and nested scrolling panels.
Extension details can change, so confirm compatibility and permissions in the current listing before relying on it. The GoFullPage listing identifies a full-page capture extension and includes a changelog entry dated September 24, 2026, but the available information does not establish JPEG export; check its current export choices before using it for this task.

A screenshot is a rendering, not a raw copy of the site. Results can differ from what you see after a normal scroll.
Lazy-loaded images
Some pages request images only as they approach the viewport. Scroll through the page once before capturing, or use a tool that explicitly loads lazy images. Otherwise the output may contain blank image areas.

Sticky headers and overlays
Fixed navigation bars can appear repeatedly in stitched captures. Cookie banners, newsletter dialogs, and chat widgets can cover content. Dismiss them before capture and retake the image if necessary.
Nested scrolling panels
A page can contain an internal table, code block, or feed with its own scrollbar. A browser’s full-page command may capture only the panel’s initial view. Capture the panel separately or use a tool that supports nested scroll areas.

The file is PNG, not JPEG
That is expected for Firefox’s documented download. Open the PNG in an editor and export JPEG; do not rename the extension.
The bottom of the page is missing
Confirm that you selected full-page capture, scroll once to trigger lazy loading, close overlays, and check whether the missing content is inside a nested scrollbar.

Text looks blurry
Prefer PNG for text, capture at 100% zoom or a higher device scale, and avoid repeatedly recompressing a JPEG.
The page contains a blank section
Wait for network activity and client-side rendering to finish. Test the page while logged in if the content requires authentication, and verify that a bot check has not replaced the page.
