To save a webpage as HTML, use your browser’s save command and choose its HTML-only format if you need the source in one file. If you want an offline copy with images and styling, choose a complete-page format instead; those formats may create a companion folder or a web-archive file.
Choose the right kind of saved page
“Save as HTML” can mean either saving the page’s HTML source or keeping an offline copy that looks more like the page you saw. Those are different outputs:

| Format | What it saves | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| HTML only / Page Source | One HTML file, without the page’s images; styling may also be absent. | Keeping or inspecting the HTML source. |
| Complete page | An HTML file plus a companion folder for images and supporting resources. | An offline copy that retains more of the page’s appearance. Keep the HTML file and folder together. |
| Web Archive | A single archive file that includes graphics. | Saving a page in Safari on Mac with its graphics. |
A saved page is a local copy, not a guarantee that every feature will work offline. Dynamic content can rely on the live site, and links to other pages still lead to those destinations. Apple notes that some webpages may prevent saving displayed items.

Save a complete page as one HTML file
The built-in options above do not always produce a single HTML file containing all the page’s resources. SingleFile is an optional browser extension and command-line tool whose project describes saving a complete webpage into one HTML file. Its Chrome Web Store listing says the extension can include CSS, images, fonts, and frames. Compatibility and results can vary by browser and webpage, so check the listing for your browser before installing it.

If you need a screenshot rather than an HTML file, ScreenshotNeo returns an image or PDF from one API request. For example, save a page as a WebP image with cURL:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners before capture and removes known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be disabled. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses include page-verdict and billing headers. An MCP server offers screenshot tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. This produces a screenshot or PDF, not an HTML file. Fix common save problems
- The saved file looks plain or has no pictures: You likely selected HTML-only or Page Source. Choose Firefox’s Web page, complete or Safari’s Web Archive if you want the browser’s built-in option for keeping more of the page’s appearance.
- A Firefox complete-page copy is missing resources: Check that the companion folder remains in the same location as the HTML file. Moving or renaming one without the other can break the local copy.
- Parts of the page do not work offline: A saved file may not preserve dynamic behavior or content fetched from the live site. Linked destination pages also remain separate pages, not part of the saved page.
- Safari does not save an item: Apple says some webpages can prevent saving displayed items; the available save may therefore omit them.
- You are following Chrome’s computer menu on a phone or tablet: The cited Chrome steps apply to computers, not mobile devices.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does HTML-only save the pictures too?
No. Firefox’s HTML-only option and Safari’s Page Source save HTML source without pictures or graphics.
Can I email a Firefox complete-page save as just the HTML file?
The page’s supporting resources are in a companion folder. Keep and share that folder with the HTML file if you want the saved copy to retain those resources.

Does ScreenshotNeo save an HTML file?
No. Its API returns a screenshot in PNG, JPEG, or WebP, or a PDF; it is not a webpage-to-HTML export tool.
