To save a web page as a PDF without ads, first open a reader or simplified view if your browser offers one for that page, then print the page to PDF. The reader view may remove ads and other clutter; printing creates the PDF. Neither step works identically on every site, so check the print preview and the saved file before relying on it.
Choose the right method for your browser

Firefox: save a simplified PDF
- Open the page’s menu and choose Print.
- In More settings, look for Format > Simplified. Choose it if available. Alternatively, activate Reader View before opening Print.
- Set the print destination to Save to PDF, check the preview, and save.
Mozilla says Simplified formatting removes clutter such as buttons, ads, and background images. The control may be absent if simplified view is unavailable for that page or Reader View is already active. Printed pages can differ from their on-screen appearance. Microsoft Edge: use Immersive Reader where available
- Open the page. If the Immersive Reader icon appears in the address bar, select it. On Windows, F9 is another way to enter Immersive Reader.
- Choose Print, or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS.
- Choose the appropriate PDF destination, inspect the preview, and save.
Microsoft Support describes the clutter-free print option as removing surrounding material such as ads and site navigation. Its documentation recommends Immersive Reader as a workaround while the direct option is being released, and notes that Immersive Reader is not available on every website. Chrome: print to PDF, but verify whether ads remain
- Open the page and choose File > Print, or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on Mac.
- In print preview, select a PDF destination and save the file.
- Open the PDF and check whether ads or other page clutter were included.
Chrome’s Reading Mode provides a focused reading view, but the cited Google documentation does not establish that it removes ads from a PDF export. Treat print-to-PDF as a way to create the file, not as a guarantee of ad removal. Google’s print instructions explain the PDF workflow; Google’s Reading Mode help describes that view.

Safari on iPhone: save a PDF and inspect it
- Open the page in Safari and tap Share. Depending on the Safari layout, you may need to open the page menu first.
- Choose Markup, then tap Done.
- Choose Save File To and select where to save the PDF.
Apple documents this as a way to save a webpage as a PDF, but its instructions do not claim that ads are stripped. Check the saved file before sharing or archiving it. Apple’s instructions for saving and marking up PDFs cover the steps.
What to check before you use the PDF
- Ads and clutter: Confirm that the simplified view actually removed what you wanted removed; some pages have no supported reader mode.
- Images and backgrounds: Simplified formatting can remove background images. Check that important illustrations, charts, and photos remain.
- Page breaks: Scroll through the full PDF to catch split paragraphs, missing content, or awkward pagination.
- Links and layout: If the PDF is for sharing or record-keeping, make sure headings and links remain understandable in the exported layout.
Fallback: use the browser’s print command
If there is no reader or simplified view, use the browser’s Print command and choose a PDF destination. This reliably describes a PDF-creation route, not an ad-removal feature.
