To save a URLbox screenshot image as a PDF, display the image in Chrome, open Chrome’s Print command, choose Save as PDF as the destination, check the preview, then select Save. This puts the screenshot image onto a PDF page; it does not re-render the original webpage. If you want the webpage itself laid out as a PDF, use Urlbox’s PDF rendering option instead.
Save the screenshot image from Chrome
- Display the screenshot in Chrome. If it appears inside a Urlbox results page, open the image itself or download it and open the downloaded image in Chrome.
- Open Chrome’s Print command. Use Chrome’s menu or the print shortcut for your operating system.
- Choose the destination. Select Save as PDF in the destination or printer control.
- Check the preview. If the screenshot is clipped or too small, adjust the available page layout or scale settings and review the preview again.
- Save the file. Select Save, choose a filename and folder, and confirm.
The resulting PDF contains the displayed screenshot image on a page. It does not restore webpage links, selectable text, or other page content that was not part of the image. Chrome’s dialog labels and layout can vary by version and operating system; the University of Queensland’s 2019 instructional PDF shows the Save as PDF destination in Chrome’s print dialog.

Choose between printing the image and rendering the webpage
These are different jobs. Printing an existing screenshot is a convenient one-off conversion. Rendering the source URL or HTML as a PDF creates a document from webpage content, with pagination and print-layout behavior rather than simply placing the screenshot image on a page.

Render the original page as a PDF with Urlbox
Urlbox documents PDF output by setting format to pdf. Its normal PDF output is multipage; its full_page option can place the full site on one PDF page. That single-page result may be very long, so multipage output is usually more practical for reading and printing.

Urlbox uses print styles by default. Its render options also include page sizes such as A4, Letter, and Legal; page ranges; background printing; and controls for headers, footers, page numbers, and metadata. Set media to screen if you want screen CSS instead of the default print CSS. The choice can change how the page looks in the PDF compared with its live browser appearance.
For repeated or command-line rendering, Urlbox’s CLI quickstart gives this example: urlbox pdf https://stripe.com/pricing --output pricing.pdf. The CLI defines pdf as shorthand for render --format pdf --full-page; it is not needed for the manual Chrome workflow.

Create a PDF with Chrome’s command line
For a repeatable local workflow, Chrome’s headless command-line mode can print a target page to PDF. Chrome for Developers documents the --print-to-pdf flag, which saves a file named output.pdf in the current working directory. Add --no-pdf-header-footer to omit the print header and footer. The older flag name was --print-to-pdf-no-header.

Use this route when you need to automate Chrome itself. It renders a target page as a PDF; it is not the same as opening an already-generated screenshot image and printing that image. The Chrome for Developers documentation describing these flags was last updated 2024-10-21 UTC.

Fix common problems
- The PDF has the wrong content. If Chrome is displaying a webpage or a Urlbox results page rather than the screenshot image, the PDF will represent what is displayed. Open the screenshot image directly before printing.
- The image is clipped or tiny. Inspect Chrome’s print preview and adjust page layout or scale. Check the preview again before saving.
- The PDF is not a full webpage. Printing an image preserves the screenshot’s pixels, not the page’s underlying content. Render the source URL through Urlbox with
formatset topdfif you need a document generated from the webpage. - The PDF looks different from the live page. Print CSS is the default for Urlbox PDF output. Use
media: "screen"when screen styles are needed, and review the resulting layout. - The file is unexpectedly long or split across pages. Urlbox’s default PDF is multipage. Use
full_pagefor one long page, or set page size and page ranges to control the document’s output.
